I’ve been hitting up Joe’s Surf Shack for years now, and I have to say—the security team here deserves every bit of praise! As a regular who loves the laid-back Jersey Shore vibe, live music, cold drafts, and those insane burgers, I always feel completely safe and welcome, even on the busiest summer weekends when the place is packed.
The bouncers/security staff are professional, friendly, and super attentive without being overbearing. They keep things running smoothly, handle crowds like pros, and make sure everyone follows the rules so the good times keep rolling. Whether it’s checking IDs quickly at the door or just keeping an eye out to maintain that chill dive-bar atmosphere, they do it with respect and a smile. I’ve never seen any issues escalate, and they always seem to de-escalate things calmly before they even start.
In a spot this popular near the beach (walk right in with sand on your feet!), having solid security makes all the difference. It lets locals and visitors alike relax, enjoy the music, grab some great food, and have fun without any worries.
Hands down, the best security crew on the Shore. Thanks for keeping Joe’s the awesome hangout spot it is—keep up the great work! Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a safe, fun night out in Lake Como/Belmar area.

What the heck took me so long to try this place? I guess we always figured it was going to be crowded in season and blew it off. Well we finally went when my kiddo said it smelled amazing as we rode by on our bikes. Getting him excited about going out to dinner somewhere new is challenging so I said let’s go.
There’s a couple of games, golden tee and big buck hunter in the entry so there’s a win for the nine year old. Then they have Surf Shack Happy Meals that are much better versions of every kid’s favorite from McDonald’s.
I’m having a beer, kids happy and what more could you ask for?
Well adult night a few days later was fantastic as well. Now keep in mind we’re mid fifties so we’re not very late and I imagine it’s a different crowd at midnight. Not a bad thing just want to be clear we’re not the late night reviewers.
Oh and if you are a late night person the kitchen is open until 1am every night even in the winter.. Huge if you’re starving and thirsty around here after 10pm.

They have this notorious trashy bouncer with neck tattoos that has been throwing people out for nothing. He threw me out for flirting with girls across the bar in sign language. Said he had been “watching me all night.” I was there for 30 minutes… and sober. And he took a picture of my license even though i got right up and left without argument. He also threw my friend out for allegedly standing in the way of the kitchen door. They gotta address this dude. Used to be our favorite bar in Belmar area. Now we boycott. And we are not the only ones.

Horrible night. Went for food early and got served an hour and 30 later and the food was cold. Fries were soggy and bun was very hard. Then later in the night, I was punched in the face by one of the bodyguards friends. The bodyguard has tattoos on his face, glasses, and is slim. Got a pretty good mark from it.

Horrible experience from start to finish. When we arrived, our waitress immediately told us she had to leave at 10pm — even though it was only 9. We ordered quickly to accommodate her, but the food and service were both subpar. After eating, our server told us we could leave our belongings in our booth while we danced, so we did.
A short time later, a hostile bouncer with neck tattoos decided to kick me out, claiming I was “too drunk,” which wasn’t true. I didn’t argue — I calmly left, even though he was clearly mistaken (I walk differently because of an old injury). Despite everything, I had still left a 60% tip.
When I tried to speak with the bouncer to clarify or at least grab my jacket, he refused to even talk to me or let me back in. I had to ask someone else to retrieve my things, only to find our server — the same one who said she was leaving early — now hanging out in our booth with our belongings.
Between a server who rushed us through dinner and a bouncer who made assumptions without any conversation, this bar completely ruined the night. Terrible service, unprofessional staff, and zero accountability

Great Food and Staff! A Must Stop Bar and Grille with some amazing options! I highly suggest the Mahi Tacos. SO ON POINT! Some of the best I ever had. Hands down. Their night life is also some of the Best! If you’re in the area, you must visit Joes! Open til 2am!

Arriving on a Tuesday night in Winter this is a local watering hole with aspirations to be more. Adding some decor that just doesn’t manage to achieve any unity and a few sports tvs coupled with a jukebox system so loud you can’t talk with the person next to you. The beer in tap was priced well. The serious drawback was there is only street parking. If you are in walking distance and alone in need of drowning misery this is your place.

I went for an outing with my sister and friend we sat down had a couple of drinks at the table. The place was packed. Me and my sister and friend when we stood up to dance this couple of people took our table. When we left our sweater in the chair and our belongings in the table. We where about to leave the place so I ask the guy that was in our table if he could give me my belongings and my friend. They guy gave me all the belongings and his girlfriend purse without me knowing. Tha security guy thought that I stole it i told him that her friend gave it to me with all our belongings we didn’t notice. In less then a minute not even out the door still talking. The security guy came to me and said I stole it. I try to explain and ask him to check the camera. he came with a raises remark like you people always do the same. I work to job don’t need to steal but like the place is all white and I was the only spanish I should of known this people will never change please don’t go to this place is raises
