Having Lunch at the Catfish Island was a memorable experience. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was inviting and warm and tasteful decor. The service was good: our server was attentive and knowledgeable, ensuring our needs were met throughout the meal.We both had five piece catfish platter with fries, which was flavorful, the catfish being perfectly cooked, crispy, and delicious, with fresh, high-quality ingredients and a unique blend of flavors. Overall a very pleasant food experience.

So. There’s an art to this. Follow along with me.
First off, everything is fantastic. With that said, you don’t want the hush puppies and the massive sweet tea to wreck your appetite. Have the hush puppies brought out with the meal. They are spectacular! But filling. The catfish is incredible! Breaded and fried to perfection. Frog legs were a delicacy and should 100% be ordered. Get you a fried pie and crawl out of the place. Highly recommend.

The hushpuppies are about the best I have ever had and that was to start the meal. That along with a local highly reccomending the place, got me really excited about what was coming just to be let down. I had the Freddad platter. The ribeye was cooked to the right temperature and was what I expected; however, i expected the catfish to be phenomenal and was let down. While the fish was cooked well, it had no flavor, and no amount of salt would help. So, the fish needed tartar sauce, and that’s where a nice homemade sauce would be great, but what was available was packaged food service sauce. The onion rings were just regular food service, drop-them-in-the-oil variety that you get just about everywhere. My wife had the seasoned sirloin that also tasted bland. I am glad that the locals like the place and it has survived for many years; however, as a traveller looking for the local gem, I didn’t find what I was looking for. This a nice place with affordable, but unsatisfying food minus the hushpuppies. I could make a meal from them if I wasn’t trying to eat a mostly carnivore diet.

We ordered the FredDad’s Special to share. It was good. No complaints on the food. The menu shows it for $19.99 we ordered 2 waters for drinks. Nothing else. So tax is $4.21? Or they charged me for something extra? Who knows? I didn’t get an itemized receipt.

This was hands down the most bland, unseasoned fish I’ve ever eaten. Absolutely no flavor—just hot, greasy disappointment. As for the coleslaw, it tasted more like dessert than a side dish… oddly sweet, like someone dumped candy into the bowl. If you’re looking for real Southern flavor, keep driving. This isn’t it.

This is the fish that we were served. If you like brown, mud tasting catfish, then you might enjoy eating here. Once we noticed that the catfish steaks tasted better than the fillets, we ask the waitress if we could have the steaks instead of fillets she told us that the fish was not thawed out yet. So, we talked to the manager and she lied and said that they were out, when we already knew that the cook was jyst being lazy. By the way, this picture actually makes the fish look good.
