I LOVE the Dragon House. Everyone has their own specific dish that keeps them going back. Mine is a small but not insignificant detail, the broth. Their good egg noodle broth is characterized by a deeply savory (“umami”) foundation, balanced seasoning, and a slightly rich or velvety texture that clings to the noodles without overpowering them. I sip the broth as one sipps a vintage wine. It’s an addiction I don’t want to break up with.

Dragon House is a complete whole in the wall to-go lunch place serving up Chinese and Vietnamese Americanized food. Greasy, hot food that is served in large quantities. The kind of food that fills your belly but not necessarily satiate your culinary taste buds.

I recently ordered the wor wonton soup. It was a cold day, and I wanted something hot. From my past experience, I was not expecting a ton of wontons. I would be stoked if I got more than three (like Abby with at least one in Ghostbusters). But hey this time around, the soup was swimming with wontons. There were shrimp, decent amount of thin slices of light chicken meat, and some slices of char sui (bbq pork) with a spattering of bean sprouts, broccoli, and sliced cabbage. But no noodles, last time (a few months ago) it had thin soup noodles with hardly any or none of the above mentioned items. The broth had way more flavor than the last time as well.

The call in ordering process is wonky. I called to place my order. Right after I told her what I wanted, she hung up. Not telling me anything more such as the wait time or price. 22 minutes later, I am physically in the shop waiting in line. I get to the front and tell her I called in an order for wor wonton soup. She is a woman of few words and says “wait”. So I stand and wait. A few minutes later, she shouts out “wor wonton soup”. I go up to the counter and she waves at a lady sitting down, the lady shakes her head no. I said I called in an order ( as I did before). She does not give me the order even though no one else is claiming it. I am in a stand off now. I realize that I have not paid yet and can walk my sad self somewhere else. As I internally ponder my next move, she provides me the order and rings me up. Not sure if the place changed ownership. I always dealt with another employee previously.

Delicious food. Their wonton soup with or without egg noodles is delicious. They serve it very fresh and hot. The broth cooks down the fresh vegetables and cilantro making it so delicious. The soup is large and very filling. I didn’t need to purchase the combo meal with it. Ended up freezing the meal and eating it a few days later.

Standard rice noodle bowl for $13 (including tax). Chicken was plentiful and tasty. Noodles were a bit overcooked. The fish sauce was slightly sweet but didn’t have the tang that I’ve gotten at other Vietnamese restaurants. And no pickled veggies which are the best part! Not the worst rice noodle bowl but it the best either. No seating indoors. Sat on the front patio which was nice.

Dragon House has a large and varied menu – something for everyone. I ordered Garlic Shrimp and chow mein. I called it in and the lady was super friendly. My food was ready when I got there. The restaurant is very clean, but definitely looks like a quick, take-out type place with some seating outside. But the food was fresh and flavorful (large portions for the price – two people could have eaten the dish I purchased). The shrimp were large and not overcooked. I’m definitely going back for some pork vermicelli.

I ordered a combination plate with chow mein, broccoli and beef and chicken. As you can see by the image there was only 3 pieces of the beef and the rest was broccoli. Don’t get me wrong the food was good, but when you’re paying close to $13 you expect to get a little than just vegetables.

Ordered the orange chicken with chown mein and steamed rice. It was overall good. Nothing spectacular. Decent price for what you get. I didn’t care for the chow mein to much. Noodles were a little big and dense for my taste. Would go back but not get chow mein.

Nice little place for some quick Chinese fried-rice, noodles and various chicken entrees. The chicken entrees are on the good side similar to panda express and other Chinese places. They offered surprise gifts on the eve of Vietnamese New Year. If you work close-by, a place to be tried.

I had a disappointing experience. I placed a custom order and it was accepted, but afterward the person making my order decided they didn’t want to complete it. This wasted my time and was very frustrating.

The bbq pork vermicelli bowl with egg roll is my favorite. I’ve requested less rice and double veggies and it’s a perfect balance for me.
