The first Macado’s restaurant was opened in 1978 by Richard Macher in downtown Roanoke, Virginia. It soon became popular for its eclectic ambiance of cartoon, antique, and local nostalgic decor, as well as its wide array of hearty yet modestly-priced sandwiches, subs, and entrees. Popular with the college crowd, the restaurant opened additional locations near Virginia Tech, Radford University, and Roanoke College. Locations were added at the rate of one or two per year, including those in neighboring West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. The Chicken Tenders were very good (tough to mess up), the salad was okay (stale croutons), the service was average, and the beer was cold, but I got there at 7 p.m. on a Wednesday night and left a little after 10. Met a friend at 8.
For the first hour, the atmosphere was solid. For the second hour, it was okay. For the third hour, it wasn’t good. The clientele kept going downhill. It had a bit of a troublemaking vibe. Just letting you know. But you probably already know.
This is more for the people coming in from out of town and considering it as an option. If you want a chill vibe, I recommend going during the day or evening.

Visited Macado’s at 1pm on a Monday. The menu is large and varied with plenty of choices. Our waitress recommended the Bang Bang Bacon Burger Quesadilla—while it was okay, the shell felt a bit empty and I probably wouldn’t order it again. The fresh-made chips were a highlight, especially with the dips (my favorite was the French onion, but my companion preferred ranch).
We also tried the McDuffy (very good, but missing avocado—still worth re-ordering) and the Chicken Parm Wrap (solid, would order again). Drinks were fresh, and the restaurant is spacious with moderate noise. Service was on point: attentive without being overbearing. Our total was $55.24 for three meals.
Overall: A step above typical bar food, great chip dips, and strong service. We’d definitely do it again!

First time here and impressions were made. The place is awesome and inviting, then you experience the service and it is incredible. Our server, Jackie, was very attentive and polite and made the experience great! The food was incredible and I can’t believe the food I got here. I recommend the Rueben! The staff was great, Josh and Jackie made us feel very welcome.

Visited restaurant on a Thursday night and seemed to be fairly busy. After getting seated, took forever for waitress to visit our table. Once she took our drink orders, seemed like another 20 min passed before she came back to take our food orders. Besides the wait for each, the food was good and I have never had a bad sandwich at any Macadoos. Also, the boneless wings are half off on Thursdays and are hard to beat. We had an Italian sandwich and it was very tasty.and the sandwich’s are big enough to share Would eat here again, but hopefully service would be a little more attentive.

I called in an order for carryout. I ordered a burger & fries for my friend and I to split. When I got home after picking it up the burger wasn’t “well done” and still very pink inside. I called to notify them, and the manager Josh said he’d redo the meal at no charge, which is fair. The staff was very attentive to the issue, and actually gave me two meals at no cost for the inconvenience, and took time to make sure everything was satisfactory. Their customer service here at the Bluefield location far exceeded my expectations, and the food was great! I’ll definitely be returning!

Food at McDoes is usually okay. This time we sat at a table and service was okay, I sat at the bar and waited to get served 10-15 minutes but a bartender was in the back doing whatever not serving the customers and it’s happened multi times. At Christmas time My sons came in from out of town we went to macado’s set a table near the bar we have four or five servers walk by us and never even looked at us we had to move to the bar and then waited there for 10 minutes to get a drink really bad service need to fix that.

Called in order and was told 20-25 minutes for pick up. I got there after 25 minutes and waited another 35 minutes in store. They were not busy at all. Food was burnt and cold-nasty. Terrible behavior with the young girls more worried about flirting than professional behavior.

I have not one time ever had a bad experience here. And not just here but the Macado’s in Roanoke, Salem, Lynchburg, Boone, Blacksburg… One location is all locations, The food and preparation is awesome!
