The. Best. Wings.
I have been coming to the vine for 15 years. Whenever I return for the holidays I make it a point to eat here every chance I get. I cannot recommend it more for steins of frosty beer, the absolute best cooked wings and delectable sauces.
I make my own wings at home at least 5 times a month (little obsessed I know), and would still prefer coming here.
The Maple hot is not tacky, corn syrupy or overly sweet like you would usually find in a hot barbeque, and I find myself craving it as soon as I leave. The super hot is the absolute best of hotter sauces you can find, actually delivering flavor. I always get a side to dip in.
The bar has been spruced up a bit within the last few years and still retains the classic pub vibes that brought me there years ago.
The service is the most welcoming in Iowa City. It doesnt feel like passing students just pouring beers, as you can easily find across the town. Warm and conversational.
I appreciate the vine remaining a beacon in the ever changing downtown area.
One of the few places ill take time out of my day to sit down and write a review for.

I first ate here as a senior in high school back in 2022, and the service was terrible then. I returned today as a senior in college, hoping things had improved—but unfortunately, nothing has changed.
The restaurant was about three-quarters full, yet there were only two servers and a bartender on staff. It took over 30 minutes just to receive our checks, which is unacceptable.
What really crossed the line was the pricing. I ordered a side of fries and was charged $11—for a side of fries. I have never been to a restaurant where a side of fries costs more than $6, let alone nearly double that. It’s baffling that you can get six boneless wings for less than the price of fries.
With service this poor and prices this unreasonable, there’s no chance I’ll be coming back. It’s disappointing to see a place seemingly rely on its location in a college town to continue doing business while delivering such a subpar experience. Some things, unfortunately, don’t change…
If your wondering if you should go here or somewhere else to eat, I would go ahead and pick your other option.

Got there it said please seat your self but none of the servers came to our table for 30 minutes I go to the bar after they don’t come to our table. They bring the order the bar tender for the order wrong and took 30 minutes to bring the rest of the order. The food was good but service is kinda trash. We had to go back to the bar and ask for our tab. They literally only came to the table to check if we needed anything after asking how we wanted our tab. We were the only African American people in the tavern.

We had the best experience with our waitress, Liv! Not only did she take great care of us, but she even made sure our two dogs had water, which we thought was the sweetest touch. She checked in on us just the right amount and made the whole meal really easy and fun. You can tell she genuinely cares about her guests. Thanks, Liv, for making our night so enjoyable — we’ll definitely be back!

Ordered 6 traditional wings and garlic fries, total with tip $23. I expected they toss the fries with garlic powder and parmesan…geez, they soaked fries in mayooo. I love crunchy fries, it ended up being soggy fried potato dipped in mayo. Listen, 6 chicken wings and fried potato with celery and to be $23…is abomination. I am sorry but this is awful. And pls buffalo wings are low quality food in general, it should cost everywhere max $6. But it seems more expensive than steak today.

I had some time to kill before a football game. My server Grace was awesome! Always making sure I had everything I needed, super polite and personable! The food was delicious and the drinks were good! I’m glad Grace was my server!!

The service was good!! The food was ok but the sauces was amazing and I also liked the fact they had small wings. I just didn’t like the fact that the wings were overly cooked and the grease the fries was cooked on was old. It definitely better than the one on the coralville strip.

This place has not changed since the first time I started to go here over 30 years ago. I am the University of Iowa class of 1997, and nothing has changed in here except for more TVs 🙂 I had some great chicken wings and some bottled beers. It’s nice to see establishments still thriving after all these years.
