4 of us visited on a Monday in early March at 2.30pm.
Very friendly and helpful service to guide us on the drinks and menu options. The atmosphere was lacking only because of the time we visited. There are quite a lot of tables and I imagine in the evening this place would be buzzing.
Everyone enjoyed their food and me as a vegetarian had the veggie burger shown in the pics. It was the best veggie burger I’ve eaten to date.
The other pic shows the unique sink and taps in the gents. Had to show that as it went with the ambience of the location and it was certainly unique.
Great location and we are visiting again within the next 2 weeks.

Whisky Shorts
Popped in here whilst househunting in York. We shared a BBQ platter and had a coke each. The food was lovely with a wide range of the meat options they cook here. Particularly liked the chicken wings, sausage, and pork elements but it was all fantastic.
Our server, Finn, was really welcoming and attentive, making sure we had what we needed. He also helped us out on the househunt by answering some questions about the areas we had been looking at.
All in all this was a great meal, enjoyed in a lovely restaurant, with welcoming and helpful staff- would highly recommend it!

Nice place to go if you are really hungry portions are huge (which I think it goes price accordingly ) and if you like bbq sauce or grilled meat , not much to say about the atmosphere it’s not really outstanding, I was more impressed with the facade , front door it’s gorgeous. However the drinks were quite good and the presentation was excellent. I will recommend going in group , it’s more like a family ambiance

seriously delicious. i love the southern aesthetic, it makes me want to adopt a texan accent and call my grandma mee maw. plus they have such friendly staff !! was served by the wonderful laura. one of the best places to be a big back in york fr. the brisket especially is to DIE for, so soft the tenderism is present. BIG plus side – they have toiletries and sanitary products in the bathroom (also southern themed) (not the sanitary products the bathroom). oh and the cherry cola bourbon drink is so dangerously good….

If you’re looking for barbeque straight out of the USA this is the place!! The food is amazing, there are plant based options as well, the cocktails are fantastic, the atmosphere is what you would imagine a barbeque establishment to be and the staff are incredibly friendly. There’s also a great bar attached to the restaurant so you can have a pre or post dinner drink, or an out of this world naughty milkshake…just an amazing place to have a good dining experience

We had an awesome Thanksgiving feast there today! I am an American so I appreciated being able to have a traditional southern Thanksgiving feast there. It made the holiday for us! The service was friendly and efficient, and Jason the manager even showed us the smoker he had imported from Missouri (my home state) to cook and smoke the meats! We were also fortunate to get two free cupcakes. The food was delicious, and the eggnog was the best eggnog ever! Thanks for making Thanksgiving a wonderful holiday for us.

Been to several Hickory’s and this is the best so far. Great service and interaction with staff, lovely Christmas decorations and the seating arrangements are generously spaced apart. Great for couples, families or other groups and the small cinema for kids and popcorn starters are a great touch (seen these at other branches). If visiting York or locally I would highly recommend breakfast, lunch or dinner!

First time in a Hickory’s, I’d heard good things about them so we thought we’d check it out while in York.
Family of 5, and we all absolutely loved it. It’s not that often we find a place that we all love.
From arrival it was a great experience. The vibes/decor are great, the staff were all spot on.
Greeted by a geezer with a strong look, excellent ginger beard I complimented him on.
Our server was lovely too. We got a wee bag of popcorn and the kids loved the cinema room that they could go into as they pleased. Frozen was the movie showing.
We were offered a brisket taster. We each got a little paper carton with a piece of brisket. Great touch. (Mind it was added to the bill at £8.75 which I queried and with apologies it was removed, I thought I’d been sold a sneaky move there).
For our food, we went with a main and a dessert. I got The Carnivore tray and the apple crumble jam-jar cheesecake. The meat tray was so good, a nice belly full of goodness. The deconstructed cheesecake inspired fro-co jam-jar thing was a lot nicer than I thought however I would’ve just preferred a nice big slice of regular cheesecake (I just love cheesecake!!).
And I’d mentioned that I’d just hit my 16year sober birthday and they surprised me with a celebration donut tray. Lovely touch.
The other meals we had were the brisket, the mac n cheese, the ribs, the sharing s’mores with real fire pit!!, the frozen-custard which was more ice cream than expected.
The kids loved the little tokens they got to use in the sweetie dispenser machines to decorate their fro-co.
So we all thought Hickory’s was excellent, and we’ll definitely return. It’s a new family favourite. We’re looking forward to one closer to home, there’s already Thornaby but also Gateshead apparently in early 2026.

8 hour beef rib and 16 hour beef brisket is the one we got to have when we visit.
Everyone is welcoming and friendly from start to end, what a wonderful and joyful experience.
Unlimited popcorn for the children and even a mini movie screen for them to enjoy, how thoughtful.
