I absolutely love this restaurant! The buffet (which starts after U of I Summer Break on August 20th) has all of my favorite dishes. Staff is super nice and accommodating. I drive forty minutes once or twice a week to eat here. Definitely recommend!

I have no idea how this place is still open. It tries to make itself look like an upscale restaurant while serving common indian dishes and having students as their main customer??
I guess I’ll start with the good. Cleanliness of the place has definitely improved and they’re open on sunday’s.
Menu with no pictures, so if you aren’t indian or familiar with indian cruisine you’re just kinda stuck googling for images of the dish. Nothing like a description of the dish anywhere
Staff basically gives you water then leaves you alone.
Now the food
The dish on the right, tasted disgusting. Half the dish was just onions and I had one slice of bell pepper in the corner. The bell pepper tasted raw and instead of a fork I got TONGS.
Middle dish was alright but its literally like maybe 8 pieces of chicken. You get to pick the spice level from 1-6.
Rice tasted pretty good but cmon, its rice.
Very stingy with the rice and portion sizes are way too small. The sauce of the dessert tasted alright but the dessert itself tasted soggy and cold in the middle.
I suspect a majority of the dishes were frozen, definitely not fresh. Perhaps thats why they churn out dishes so fast.
Worse of all, this all came out to 42.34 USD, and that was WITHOUT TIPS. The portion sizes, the eh service and basic food does not justify anything close to the price it came at. just don’t bother with ordering from the menu, there are better places to go if you want good indian food
The only thing that might be worth it is their buffet, but even then it’s just because of the variety and the price point.
Indian food takes a long time to properly make, and they’re speeding through it.
There’s a reason why Cravings and Ten second rice noodles is always packed and this place is empty.

Wonderful aromatic authentic northern Indian Food with the absolute best service! Outstanding! Friendly and helpful. Ranjit Sandhu made sure I had everything made exactly how I prefer. I’m so happy to find such excellent quality Indian food. I’ll be back often. Kala was very kind to welcome me in. Ranjit makes the most delicious butter lamb, naan and mutter paneer. Warm comforting food and service.

This was my first visit to Ambar India Restaurant. I chose several vegetarian options and was very impressed by the depth of flavor and preparation. It was clear that the chef took great care in preparing these dishes. My server was both welcoming and helpful. I look forward to returning soon and sampling more of the menu.

Went for lunch and got a platter special (I forget what the name was). It came with rice and three mains, two chicken and one vegetarian. Delicious! Very friendly people and the cost was perfect for a satisfying lunch.

Zero is my rating!!! Service was bad. They didn’t have any hot peppers, chile powder was offered as an alternative to the norm. Perhaps they’re struggling. Either way, this is my first visit. Better luck next time? The options were terrible the fish nuggets were skin. When you asked questions it felt as if you were bothering them. I had to sit our plates on the next table because the server never moved them. I couldn’t stay longer than 20min. We were annoyed so we left.

Service okay, Lassi was so bad. Samosa chat was not authentic. And we ordered hydrabadi Chicken biryani, the biryani they gave us was like fried chicken. I won’t recommend this to anyone.

We ordered Hyderabadi Chicken Biriyani and Lamb Kadai recently. To be honest, their food quality got improved a little bit than before. Previously, it was the worst Indian restaurant in Urbana-Champaign. However, very recently it seems to me that their Lamb items got improved slightly. But, Biriyani items remain the same and it didn’t seem to me the authentic Indian Biriyani.
My rating for Hyderabadi Biriyani: 2/5
My rating for Lamb Kadai: 3.5/5
One thing to be noted, previously we felt that one of their staffs was very rude.

This food is wasted on a college town. I seek to experience the amount of flavor packed into a dish like this every day, but alas my bank account is minimal and my stomach is finite. The Lamb Khorma was creamy and satiating, I hope to come again soon.
