If barbecue is about the smoke, pit beef is about the fire. Pit beef to perfection. I’ve been coming here since before Andy & Brenda Wargo bought it 42 years ago. It’s the standard against which I’d compare pit beef. I’ve not found better anywhere. Homemade rolls perfectly frame the sandwich. The rest of the menu is excellent as well. Delicious soups. Terrific fresh fried oysters in season. A very credible crabcake. Pit turkey or ham. Down home. Not pretentious. You’re extra fortunate if you get George as your waiter. (Pit beef cooked on Fridays & Saturdays. Save the oysters for a Wednesday night.)

I haven’t been here in 15 years and I can tell you the pit beef is still fantastic! The salad bar seemed a little cramped in hard to Dish up yourself, but it’s a good addition to any meal. The horseradish that I got on my sandwich was hot! So fantastic! The service was as you’d expect from a family-owned restaurant. Very good and home like. I won’t wait another 15 years. This will be a monthly stop for me. The pit beef is only available Friday and Saturdays.

Delicious pit beef, pork and turkey! Interior is a bit old fashioned (for my taste). Service was quick and attentive.

The vibe fells like the town invited you dinner at their Grandparents house in the restaurant. The food was fresh and delicious.

Love coming to Wargo’s. Incredibly friendly staff. Been coming here since I was a kid. I know there’s other things on the menu but I always have to order the pit ham sandwich.

A way to push customers away.
The sign said 9pm for closing. We walked in at 8:35pm. Greeted with a hurry they close in 25 minutes. We understood this, as we weren’t going to order large orders. Just a meal after working outside all day. To then be told to just go to the bar. No thank you. We wanted a sit down meal, and took our business elsewhere. When the sign says nine, you either take customers up until that time or have a time of last order taken shown. Telling customers to “hurry” is a sure way to have us hurrying to spend our money elsewhere.

Pit beef is great and the onion rings were the best I’ve ever had. Servers were very friendly.

Service was very good, very welcoming and patient. The food was awful, very very unseasoned and bland. Ribs looked like they were boiled, flavorless except for the sauce. Fries weren’t crispy, completely unseasoned. Mac and cheese was very watery and bland. Cole slaw tasted old. Would not recommend the food here. The waitress did politely ask for a partial refund for us after we said we didn’t enjoy the food.

Blandest food I have ever had at a restaurant. Not even salted. I think the baby back ribs must be boiled too. I would not go back. The service was great though. I was not going to ask for a refund but the server noticed I didn’t eat hardly any of the ribs and she asked if I didn’t like it. She then removed it from our check. It was very nice of her.
