I absolutely love this restaurant and I am a regular customer. I visit in person every month and also order frequently through Uber Eats because the food is truly amazing. However, I am writing this because I am extremely disappointed with the packaging for delivery. Every single time I order the Ojingeo-bokkeum, it leaks everywhere. This time, the sauce leaked so much that the bottom of the paper bag was completely soaked and fell apart. It is frustrating because this happens every time I order this specific dish. I really want to keep supporting this place, so please use better containers or wrap them in plastic to prevent this mess. Please improve your packaging for your loyal fans.

5 complimentary side dishes came with the order. There are bean sprouts, fish cakes. Pickled cucumbers, kimchi and cabbage which is my favorite.

I ordered traditional bimbop and spicy seafood tofu soup. Nothing special. It was okay. I remember the contents of seafood was a lot more before, it’s probably the inflation! Lol!

No egg 🙁 Got the spicy pork soondubu and it was good, but there was barely any pork in the stew and all the tofu was chopped up prior. The tofu part isn’t a big deal, but not having lots of pork compared to how much you usually get at other So Gong Song locations was kinda disappointing. The interior is nice though!

Really liked their initial kimchi appetizer they serve for free. Enjoyed having the tofu soup and stone pot bibimbamp!

I feel sorry for those who had a bad time at this restaurant because my service was amazing! I didn’t need to ask to have my tea refilled (which tasted amazing, by the way) and the samgyetang I ordered left me feeling full and satisfied. Absolutely delicious! Not to mention one of the staff gave some additional side dishes, free of charge. I think I left about a ~12% tip since I only had cash on me but no one chased us outside or anything, unlike what other comments are saying. If I could, I would’ve left a higher tip. My sister and mother both each got a tofu soup with rice and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Been here a couple times and always happy with the outcome. They keep bringing out complimentary appetizers, and I personally got the beef tofu soup. For the price point you get so much delicious food incredibly quickly and they serve it so hot it’s bubbling when it arrives making it perfect to cook the complimentary egg in. Lovely place to go with friends.

Absolutely horrible experience.

1. I got the beef tofu soup and they used really low quality meat, think about the ground beef from Taco Bell. I’ve never had tofu soup with such low quality meat. There were no veggies in the soup either, I used the side dishes and put them in my soup. The sides dishes were pretty good, the salad and kimchi especially.

2. If you want good service, do not go here. The waiter confused an order and an egg was owed for the tofu soup but he had a really bad attitude about it. Did not even suggest if we wanted an egg for an extra charge. He had a bad attitude about it twice, you would think as a restaurant they would try to accommodate. We had to get up and request tea refills and water for the table since no one came.

3. If you don’t tip, they will chase you out and curse at you.

Conclusion: Don’t come here for Korean food.

This is one of few Korean options in the Edison area, so it’s certainly a welcome presence when the hankering for spicy soft tofu stew hits. So Gong Dong is a chain restaurant, and I’ve had decent meals at one of their other locations so I came in knowing what to expect.

The namesake soft tofu stew is fairly decent, and SGD restaurants offer the option of rice, ramen, or udon as the accompanying carb with your stew. Spice levels are modifiable, from no spice to very hot. Bear in mind that if you order it with noodles, the stew will come in a stainless steel bowl rather than the traditional hot stone bowls (which tend to retain heat a little better and keep the stew bubbling while you eat).

This past visit, I broke habit and ordered a hot stone bibimbap, which I quickly realized was a mistake for two reasons. One, they use the wide, flat pans, which I’ve generally found subpar to the stone bowls because they don’t seem to get as hot and therefore never create the kind of char I want on the rice. Secondly, I ordered it with tofu as the protein, which just created a wet, sloppy mess as I mixed the bibimbap together. In future visits, I’ll know to stick with the tofu stews that SGD is known for.

Two few things are noteworthy about this location –
– The restaurant is located in a large complex, so parking is plentiful.
– At the time this review is being written, there is some heavy construction going on next door. With such raucous drilling and hammering against the wall, our family could barely hear people talking right across the table from us. Things got a LOT better when we asked to be reseated on the other side of the restaurant, but that might not always be an option when things get busier.

I’ve been visiting So Kong Dong for almost 15 years, from Fort Lee to Edison. They are good as usual. Nice staff and great tofu soup.
However, I think they change their beef in their tofu soup, from small slices to minced beef. The flavor is a bit different. Not sure it’s a location difference.

I’ve been a long time customer here, and I’ve stuck through all their price changes (from their $10 to $17 price increase for their tofu soup throughout the years). However, recently, the male waiter there has been TERRIBLE. Don’t go here unless you want to play tag. They WILL CHASE YOU if you don’t tip more than 20%. Some days, their service is terrible. I will not be coming back.
