Came here for dinner out of curiosity — the menu is quite broad, with yakiniku, sukiyaki, and some creative small plates. It’s charcoal grill at the table, but worth noting: there’s little to no service in terms of cooking. You’re very much left to DIY, which is fine if that’s what you’re after.

The beef selection is fairly extensive, but personally I didn’t find the quality quite matched the price. Nothing particularly wrong, just… not that memorable.

That said, the cold starters were unexpectedly good.
The Bluefin Tuna Tataki was clean, lightly seared, and well-balanced with citrusy dressing and fresh garnishes.
Wagyu & Sea Urchin with Black Truffle Sauce was probably the best thing we had — rich, savoury, and unapologetically over-the-top (in a good way). A true one-bite luxury.

The space itself is clean and comfortable, but the lighting felt overly bright for an evening grill experience — I would’ve liked a bit more warmth or atmosphere. Service was polite but very minimal — they won’t really explain the menu or check in much once seated.

Overall: Not bad, just not quite enough to justify the price if you’re going mainly for the yakiniku. But I would come back for the small plates and a more casual visit.

Verdict first: At around £60 per person, this place is absolutely one of the best choices in London for Japanese BBQ.
1. The meat quality is excellent. I ordered wagyu and it was incredibly tender and flavourful. The thick-cut beef tongue was easily better than 90% of restaurants in the same price range.
2. Great location with genuinely comfortable seating, which is rare for central London.
3. When it’s not busy, the staff will grill for you. In my case, they handled the grilling the entire time — super attentive and made the experience effortless.
4. The sushi and sashimi were also impressive, far superior in quality compared to most Japanese chain restaurants in London.

Overall: If you want to spend £50–70 per person for a solid Japanese meal, I highly recommend coming here. The flavours are fantastic!

Hidden gem near UCL! Charco Charco serves some of the best Japanese BBQ and sushi in London. Every dish is top quality — from melt-in-your-mouth bluefin tuna sashimi to perfectly grilled wagyu rice bowls. The flavors are rich but balanced, and the service is warm and attentive. Cozy atmosphere, great for gatherings or a special treat. Definitely worth every penny!

This restaurant is a hidden gem! I loved the japanese bbq, sushi and drinks (I recommend the mango coconut mocktail). The wagyu short rib melts in the mouth it was so tender and buttery. The staff were really friendly, helpful, and attentive. We got a blind box which came with a keyring plushie which I thought was a really nice way to end our visit – highly recommend coming here it’s perfect for date night, with a group or for a special occasion 🙂

The food was immaculate although it was slightly on the pricier side. However, the service was 5⭐️ as the workers kept making sure that we were comfortable, drinks were re-filled constantly and food came out quickly.

Walked past this restaurant a year ago, to see it filled with people (assuming Japanese), we told ourselves we would visit the next time and so we did!

The food was delicious! The Sukiyaki prepared right in front of us!
The meat and vegetables were tasty and fresh.

The one who helped us was very kind and patient, he also taught us a thing or two about the Yakiniku and Sukiyaki and with that why a Japanese house had the layout they had back in the day.

After the Sukiyaki we decided to go for the Yakiniku, tried some new pieces of meat and the way it was explained how to grill it on the charcoal was really well done. Meat created the way we wanted and after we had the chance to do it ourselves.

Everything put together I can say this went way beyond our expectations, so we are sure to return again next time!

I absolutely loved lunch here. Had one of the lunch set menus of which there are several to choose from. Really good value, lots of food, delicious sashimi. Staff all extremely friendly and a relaxed atmosphere. Very solo diner friendly although would be great for couples and groups too. Will definitely go back soon for more lunches and to try their dinner menu.

Average food quality. We have ordered different types of meals and all of them were below our expectations. Just lack of the good taste either it’s sushi or tempura shrimp or baby squids etc. Id rather not recommend the place. It tastes as tourists trap.
