I came to this restaurant today and the entire experience was terrible. I normally NEVER do this, in fact, this is my first ever review. I came for my birthday as a party of 6, and even before we stepped into the establishment we had problems. We called ahead to try and make a reservation due to the holiday and they told us to walk in. We still asked to make a reservation (which thankfully we did because it was busy and people had to wait), in which we got attitude. The person on the phone sighed loudly before asking for our information, to which should have been the first sign. When we arrived we had to wait 5-10 minutes, which was perfectly fine. I have worked as a hostess and a server for multiple establishments, so I understand that things happen. When we got seated, the table was dirty and they had to clean it in front of us. We sat at the hibachi and it took them over 25 minutes to return to us and start cooking our meal. Even when they were cooking, there was no typical hibachi experience. They had no onion tower, no vegetable catch, no chit chat or engagement — it was just awkward.
One of my guests was vegetarian, and asked to substitute the Chicken Soup for the Miso soup. When everything was brought out, they had no Miso soup, but we had decided to not bring it up as they were busy. When we finally got our hibachi, the rice was a 6/10, the vegetables were borderline over salted, the steak was tooooo salty, and the chicken was bland and chewy. Overall, the hibachi meals were a 3/10.
Moving on, 4 of 6 of our table members ordered different sushi types: avocado, cucumber, tuna, salmon, spicy California roll, California roll, and a crab tempura. The sushi took longer than the actual meal and came out about 20 minutes after all the other food. They gave us the wrong sushi, and we had to debate with the server about the incorrect order. On top of that, they completely forgot one of our sushi rolls and we had to flag down the server after waiting for 10 minutes for them to return. We also had to ask for more water because no one had been checking in on our table.
Finally, the worst part of the entire meal. They upcharged us at LEAST $5. Five of our sushi’s were charged $1 higher than what it was listed on the menu. When I brought this up to the server, she basically called me a liar and said that the system said that. I said the menu has a completely different charge, so of course I would be expecting the charge to be the correct one and she only gave us $3 off. On top of that, they did not let us split any of the checks, to which they told us after we had already eaten our food (to quote, she said “Do me a favor, make it one check. We can’t do separate checks today”… so it’s not a favor, it’s a command). They automatically charged us a 18% tip (which was absolutely not deserved) and did not mention it to us ahead of time. If I had not already been looking at the receipt, I would not have seen the automatic tip. Because after you pay, they ask you for how much to tip AGAIN, and they list a new tip charge. This restaurant is either so oblivious to their mistakes and their customers are not noticing, or they are willingly scamming money from people for mid service and mid food.
BTW — we sat at our table for 10 minutes waiting for them to come and take our bill. We finally decided to just go up front to pay. I guess they were never going to inform us that we go up front. Poor communication overall. Don’t eat here.
I highly recommend this Resturant- thank you.
The chicken yakitori wasn’t on skewers like I’d thought. Small portion, tastes fine but wouldn’t get again.
I was excited for a sushi delivery place by me but this place isn’t it.
This is the first time we didn’t finish our sushi from somewhere. 🙁
My meal was simply delicious—beautifully presented, fresh, and bursting with flavor. Every bite was a reminder of why I love authentic Japanese cuisine. The attention to detail and quality was truly impressive.
If you’re looking for a place that combines outstanding food with impeccable service, I highly recommend Ginza. It’s a gem that I’ll definitely be returning to again and again.
From the moment you step inside, the staff at Ginza welcomes you with open arms, exuding warmth and eagerness to serve. Their attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction are evident, making every dining experience special.
Our visit was primarily for the sushi, prompted by my quest for a genuine all-you-can-eat (AYCE) sushi buffet. Ginza splendidly meets this need with their AYCE sushi option, priced at an astonishing $17.95. Unlike typical buffets, Ginza serves sushi fresh to order from a menu. This method ensures each piece arrives at your table pristine and freshly made, enhancing the flavors and overall dining experience while reducing food waste—a thoughtful touch.
The menu prices are generally very reasonable, with even their hibachi/teppanyaki offerings at just $25. It’s hard to pinpoint any drawbacks at Ginza, unless one prefers ultra-modern interiors or formal service attire. The only minor hiccup was a slight inconsistency with the sushi preparations due to different chefs, which led to unexpected extras in our order—not that we were complaining in an AYCE setting!
While the AYCE menu excludes certain items like nigiri and combo entrees, these are understandable omissions and can still be ordered à la carte if desired. We visited during a quieter time, which meant some ingredients were unavailable, but the staff’s proactive approach in offering alternatives ensured our experience was not diminished.
The quality of the food at Ginza is truly exceptional. The meal commenced with a delightful noodle broth and a fresh green salad dressed in a tantalizing yum-yum sauce, setting a high standard for what was to follow. The sushi, particularly the salmon nigiri, was a standout, melting tenderly in the mouth. The dragon roll was equally impressive, featuring a harmonious blend of salmon, tuna, and avocado. Additionally, the tempura shrimp in the Maryland roll was freshly prepared, providing a perfect crunch that complemented the succulent fish.
The attentive service at Ginza is worth noting. Staff members were consistently friendly and responsive, ensuring we were well cared for without being intrusive—a fine balance that they mastered gracefully.
Exciting Side Note: Ginza also offers a unique catering experience called “Backyard Hibachi,” which I am eagerly looking forward to trying at my next birthday celebration. This service promises to bring the excitement and flavors of teppanyaki right to your home, making for an unforgettable event.
Final Thoughts: Ginza is more than just a restaurant; it’s a portal to traditional Japanese hospitality and culinary excellence. It has proudly stood for over 20 years, offering a tranquil escape from the bustling modern eateries. Here, priority is given to quality ingredients and guest experience over contemporary aesthetics.
For those in search of superb sushi, friendly service, and a serene atmosphere, Ginza is a must-visit. It might not cater to seekers of cutting-edge design, but if your focus is on enjoying exceptional food in a comfortable setting, Ginza promises a memorable experience.
5/11 Tonight we swung by to try their Teppanyaki experience, and it didn’t disappoint. We went for the Filet Mignon Teppanyaki, a steal at $20, and it was a good-sized portion. The meat was cooked perfectly—juicy and tender, although not quite at the level of the priciest filet I’ve ever had. The veggies were cooked just right. Unlike some other Japanese places that overload you with rice and veggies, Ginza got the balance. I also discovered their Tatami room, which got me excited to bring a group.
