A must visit
From the moment you approach Café Boulud, the French-chic exterior immediately sets a romantic and charming tone. The staff were gracious and welcoming, a complimentary bread basket with butter and delicate mushroom arancini — a refined start to the evening.
However, the overall ambiance was disrupted by unexpectedly loud shouting from the kitchen, as the chef was firing dishes — a detail that detracted from the otherwise elegant setting. Additionally, while the staff were polite, there was a noticeable lack of familiarity with the menu; the waiter needed to reopen the menu to confirm ingredients upon inquiry.
I paired my meal with the Crimson Royal, which proved to be an excellent choice.
The hamachi ceviche was the star of the night. The mixture of mandarin and lemon brought just the right balance of umami, brightness, and acidity — beautifully complementing the freshness of the fish.
The black cod was perfectly cooked, served on a bed of white beans and lentil purée, lending the dish a comforting depth.
The duck confit, while flavorful, was overpowered by bold ingredients — sharp Dijon mustard, overly salty lentils, and soft textures throughout. The duck skin needed additional searing to bring a necessary crunch and contrast, carrots and kale provided a touch of freshness, but were not enough to fully balance the plate.
The Vacherin dessert lacked harmony — the elements didn’t come together and felt more experimental than refined.
This visit may have coincided with an off day in the kitchen.
However, for a restaurant of this caliber, consistency and attention to details are key.
Would return for the ambiance and hospitality — perhaps for breakfast next time.
Everything was perfectly arranged and tasteful balanced food, together with the wine selection. Service was smooth, efficient and ever-present.
It was well worth the spending of $ 500 US for us as a couple.
The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, setting the tone for a memorable experience.
I highly recommend a coffee and one of their house-made sweets; the quality was exceptional, a true highlight of the visit.
For the main course, I tried the Logeni Pasta, while unique, didn’t quite match the high standard set by the rest of the menu and I’d give it a 6/10 for taste and texture.
I have tried the Spring Salad, which was fresh, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor, a solid 10/10.
Overall, a refined spot worth visiting, especially for those who appreciate fine ambiance, quality service, and standout light fare.
