Came here for restaurant week! I loved the calming Asian inspired decor throughout! It also gave a local/neighborhood vibe (perfect for yourself, couples and groups). I rated my experience a 9/10 and would definitely go back! (The only thing I didn’t care for were the vegetable dumplings — didn’t really have much flavor)
Food + desserts we tried:
-SZECHUAN CUCUMBER SALAD
-PAN-FRIED DUMPLINGS (Three pieces, vegetable)
-CRAB RANGOON
-SPECIALTY SUSHI (8 PIECES) – rock and roll and black dragon
-TIRAMISU
-STRAWBERRY SOFT CREAM CAKE
Drinks we tried:
-KAIYŌ WHISKY
-PINOT NOIR
-HITACHINO NEST

Kirei Japanese Restaurant has a lot of negative reviews online, so I was curious to try it for myself. The restaurant was very quiet when we visited—there was no one else there—and the entrance door was locked, so we had to enter through the hotel back door, which was a bit odd.
The service was okay, friendly enough but not particularly memorable. We tried a few items: the **spring rolls** (two crispy rolls with Kurobuta pork, shrimp, and vegetables—note they contain mushrooms), **Karaage Japanese fried chicken** with seven spice and mayo aioli, and a prosciutto pizza. The chicken and spring rolls were excellent—crispy, flavorful, and well-prepared. The pizza was decent, and they have great deals with half-price pizzas during happy hour.
Prices are on the higher end, but overall it was a fine experience. I can see why some people might be disappointed, but I enjoyed what we tried and would consider returning.

I really wanted to like this place because the man up front was super nice and welcoming. But as soon as I got my food, it went downhill. The dumplings were literally burnt and stuck together it honestly looked like they were frozen, boiled, and then thrown on the stove until they burned. I could’ve made better at home. Then I tried the crab roe and groom, and it was just bad. It tasted super oily, like it had been sitting for days and just reheated. It didn’t taste fresh at all. When I mentioned it to the man up front, he said, “That’s just how we make it,” but I’ve been to plenty of places and I’ve never had anything like that. It just tasted like oil and fish, no creaminess or flavor nothing like what I expected. Overall, the service was nice, but the food was a huge disappointment. Definitely wouldn’t recommend.

During my stay in Chicago, I visited Kirei Restaurant for breakfast and had a pleasant experience. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff made it enjoyable. I ordered the 3-egg omelette with potatoes and multigrain bread, which was delicious. The only suggestion I have is for larger coffee portions. Overall, Kirei offers a solid breakfast option along with its modern Asian cuisine, known for fresh ingredients and excellent presentation.

I recommend the braised beef noodle soup here. Really hit the spot. I say this as someone who likes to go around and try 紅燒牛肉麵 whenever I see it on the menu wherever I go. This is the real deal. What a nice discovery in this neighborhood.
On a separate visit here I had the BBQ Kurobuta Pork, served with bok choy, a dish that is a nice low-carb option.
The bao they serve here for appetizer are mini baos, pan fried. 小煎包 to do some reverse-translation. This place is a nice little oasis and hidden gem of authentic cuisine, a place you would enjoy coming back to just to try the other things on the menu.

The location of this place is very convenient if you fly to Chicago late and stay at the Whitehall Hotel. Also, you’ll be given a discount for one meal if you stay at the Whitehall Hotel. My choice was Grilled Steak Salad and Prosseco, and I must say the salad was cooked perfectly, and I enjoyed it a lot. Special thanks go to the waiter. The service was provided at the highest level.

JOSE IS AMAZING and this place is Under rated for sure. Staff is so nice and it was empty. Like zero people there but idk, if there were more people it would be so bumpin for sure. The environment is nice, easy to get in from the Whitehall, and the crispy rice is super tasty!!!
Also got their house White.
