I finally found great Chinese food near Athens! I’ve lived in the area for 7 years. I finally found a place that serves New York style Chinese food. Well worth the drive from Watkinsville. Today we had Mongolian beef, general Tso’s chicken and sweet and sour pork. My order was take out so it would have been even better if we ate there. Everything was so tasty and flavored exactly the way I like it. The restaurant was small and unassuming but clean and orderly. the gentleman who took my order and rang me up was very polite and kind. Only Chen’s for my family from now on. The prices are very reasonable. I wouldn’t care much if the prices were higher. The food is right.

My husband and I had dinner at Chen’s Saturday and brought home food for my daughter. Hot and sour soup, shrimp rolls, sesame chicken, hunan beef and crab rangun were all delicious! Clean, great service, great portions. Highly recommend!

Excellent food and friendly service.
The General Tso’s chicken at Chen’s was perfectly sauced, a little sweet, a little sour, and a little spicy without being too salty. What a great flavor profile! The chicken was crispy and moist. And the lunch portion was just the right size.
The fried rice was still moist and not overwhelmed with carrots and peas.
I also ordered an egg roll, which was one of the best I have had in a long time. It was crunchy, crisp and hot with the perfect amount of filling to wrapper.
My companion ordered beef with vegetables. It looked delicious as well.
The space was delightful – it reminded me very much of a favorite Chinese restaurant on the west Coast. The dining room was immaculate! I loved the decorations and the tables were fun too.
Service was fast and friendly. The young woman at the counter greeted us when we came in. We found a table and there was no wait to get drinks and order.
Judging from the number of carry out orders going out the door, Chen’s has a strong local following.
I’ll definitely be back.

Everything about this place is awesome. Clean environment, friendly staff, extremely fast service and the food is delicious. The crab rangoons are the best I’ve ever had. Don’t be fooled by the fact this is a small building, this is an awesome place to eat!!

Ordered takeout a couple of months ago. Left to pick up right after ordering. Food was barely warm, like they forgot to reheat it.
Gave it another chance last week. The kids wanted chicken on a stick and sesame chicken. Chicken was so overdone that it was crunchy and terribly dry. We had to throw out all THREE orders. Instead of sesame chicken we got Sichuan chicken. Too spicy for the kids.
The egg roll and spring rolls were only fair. Other entrees ok but rices were very dry.
Not going back.

I have eaten here many times and I live about 3 miles away. The staff is friendly and the food is always hot and tasty. I especially love the beef and broccoli !

This place should be ashamed of itself. I should have listened to the recent reviews and that the place changed. 1) Prices are all 40-60% higher than their online menu. Eggroll says online $1.10 ($1.70), dumplings said about 5.25 ($7.50) etc. 2) soup w/ lunch 1 tiny wonton in a 6-8oz little cup. 3) Dumplings – these are not dumplings. These are potstickers, and much tinier ones at that (see photo attached) you can buy a big bag of at the supermarket. Tiny tiny thin potstickers. Not Chinese handmade thicker dumplings.
4) Portion sizes very small and for $48 worth of Chinese my bag was very light. Also, their hot mustard – so watery i added a picture in my 6 photos i added. Very disappointed after trying and reading obviously old reviews. Prices not updated on website otherwise i wouldn’t have even ordered.
Do yourself a favor, drive the extra few miles down to China Wok in the Goodwill complex. Much better food, same prices, but much bigger portions. You’ll get what you’re paying for. I wouldve given them 0 stars if i could.

Having just moved to the Statham/Winder area, we thought there wouldn’t be a lot of places we could frequent for dining out. I was hesitant to try Chen’s family because nobody was there and the building itself is rather unassuming. I have to say though, I’m glad I did. There’s not much to the dining area even though it is really clean. They were very friendly and served my food promptly with a smile. The reason it was empty was because most of their business (at least on a Sunday night) was take out. Even though they had a ton of orders and several pick ups, I still had great service!
The food was very reasonably priced and probably one of the top 3 best tasting Chinese I’ve had. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was because it was a bit warm in the dining room for an optimal experience. If you’re passing through the area it’s just a short detour off the beaten path. We will definitely make this a new favorite!
