I was working on a project in Opelousas and decided to skip the usual chain spots for something with more soul—and that’s exactly what I found at Fat Belly’s Diner. Tucked off the beaten path, the place has this humble, cool vibe with graffiti art on the outside and smoke rising from the kitchen like a promise.
We got there early and were greeted by Mr. Jermaine himself, the proud owner and mastermind behind the magic. He personally wrote out the menu on a whiteboard—pure plate lunch poetry. I went with the oxtail smothered in brown gravy over rice, paired with green beans and red beans. Let me tell you: sweet, savory, seasoned to perfection, and absolutely delicious.
The portions? Generous. The flavor? Out of this world. The vibe? Soulful, welcoming, and unforgettable. When my buddy asked for a Diet Coke, Mr. Jermaine laughed and said, “This is Fat Belly’s—ain’t no diet here!” And he meant it.
This is comfort food done right. If you’re anywhere near Opelousas, do yourself a favor and make the trip. Just come hungry—and maybe clear your schedule after… because you’re gonna need a nap.

We went for breakfast while camping at Deer Mountain campground. The staff and service was great. We had a table in the back by a window with a beautiful view of the mountains.❤️ I ordered an omelette with all kinds of goodies in it and rye toast. My son had something with eggs, cheese and all kinds of goodness. Everything was delicious !!!

Saw it on the Google map. Heard the message on the phone got all hyped up because y’all said y’all were “too busy to answer the damn phone.”We got over there a truck load full, and the place look like it was closed down. Try leaving a message that says we’re not open today as a courtesy . Maybe another time we’ll get to see and taste what the hype is all about..

This is the second time I purchased food from here it’s very spicy you can eat it without your tongue burning .everyone can’t eat spicy food let the customer add their own extra seasoning if need . Than they don’t give you money back but , offer you some of their other spicy food . Why would I accept more spicy food . The food is good but, to hot with pepper. I will not order anymore food until they cut down on the pepper. Not considerate of the custom at all and we lost out on our money and no food to eat . If anyone agree please let these people know that some people have high blood pressure. We were not please on how they handle this matter would not order again,we had the cabbage

Rude EVERY TIME I have ever contacted them. Attempted to call today with a question about specials because of a possible issue with Waitr’s menu and what I was seeing on their end. The woman RUDELY interrupted me, telling me that they don’t take orders over the phone. I had NO intentions on placing an order over the phone, I simply had a question. Ultimately, I did not order and I will not be ordering food from them ever. My suggestion would be for the owners to find staff with better customer service skills.

My 1st visit here was okay but visiting this place for a second time YES! like you Mrs. Harbor it made me very sick It was rotten food mixed with fresh food and it didn’t take long to affect me in a major way ! I am still recovering from that nasty food from Friday and today is Sunday ! Never ever never again!! Mr BOSS MAN!
