First let me say that people’s taste is subjective, based upon life, experiences, exposure, etc. GINBU 401 reminds me of the fun experience and exposure to Chinese restaurants I remember from my childhood in New York and in Northern VA.

These types of restaurants are going the way of Egg Foo, a forgotten menu item of the past…oh, and the main reason I came here, when I saw that Egg Foo Young was on the menu.

The ambiance was nice and cozy. A lot of take out traffic, which surprised me tha more people were not enjoying the nostalgic atmosphere of this place. No problems getting seating.

How was the food? Overall it was good. The Egg Foo Young? Different. Not the seasoned brown gravy of my memory, but rather a peanut sauce gravy…Different.

One old school trick we used to go by to judge a Chinese restaurant was the egg drop soup. If a place couldn’t make a good egg drop soup (one of the least expensive dishes) you couldn’t expect much more out of anything else on the menu. So how was the egg drop soup? DELICIOUS!

I will go back to try some other dishes, if for nothing else, the atmosphere, decent service, and overall appeal of the place.

I had a craving for hot and sour soup and was recommended to come to Ginbu — so glad I did! They have a seafood h&s which was absolutely, white peppery deliciousness. V satisfying.
Also ordered black bean veg + tofu dish and it was phenomenal. Great flavors and freshness. Perfect low key spot for comforting Chinese food.
Will be back!

Amazing sushi. I really think this place deserves to have higher reviews. I’ve gotten take-out a couple of times and it has been great, and went in person recently and everyone loved the food. One of my friends had it for the first time and actually said it was “some of the best sushi in Charlotte.” Good, fast service as well! 🙂

We stopped into Ginbu 401 for dinner and were so glad we did! While most of their business seems to be takeout (we were the only ones dining in), the service was absolutely wonderful—attentive, friendly, and fast.

The sushi was outstanding—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. I tried a few different rolls, and each one was better than the last. They have a massive selection of rolls, sashimi, and nigiri, so there’s definitely something for everyone.

We also ordered the tofu in garlic sauce with white rice, and it was delicious—super flavorful and perfectly cooked. I started with the house salad with ginger dressing, and that dressing was so good I would come back just for that.

They also have a solid wine list and even a full menu of Chinese dishes, so it’s a great spot if you’re craving variety. Highly recommend if you’re looking for fresh sushi and great service in a low-key setting!

We come here all the time for takeout for dinner (even tonight) and every time that we have sushi at another place, it never compares to the quality in the service that we get here at Ginbu. Absolutely love this place. The spicy tuna roll, volcano salad, poke bowl and the egg drop soup are all phenomenal. Can’t recommend this place enough.

We came here before going to a concert in the area. We arrived just before 5. There is a parking lot so that was helpful. It started getting busier the longer we were there. The service was very friendly, and we didn’t lack for refills or being checked on.

I got the cherry blossom roll, and my husband had the Alaska Roll. He was very pleased, because it wasn’t loaded with a ton of rice. My roll was really good as well. He also ordered the sashimi salad and loved it. The presentation was wonderful and everything looked really fresh.

We enjoyed our visit and will be back in November when we have another concert to go to.

My food was hot and ready to go as soon as I arrived. Very good flavor, just as pictured and well packaged. I’m back in this side of town for work and plan to make this a normal lunch stop. Thank you

It was my first time trying this place. I’ve been looking for good Chinese food. The food was just ok. I ordered the pepper chicken with white rice. It was overly peppery and there was more green peppers and onions than chicken. The vegetable egg roll was just ok, it was small and for $3 I expected two. The wonton soup lacked flavor, the smoky oasis sushi was pretty good. Overall not impressed. I spent a total of $46. The white rice was cooked perfectly (honorably mention).

Ginbu 401 has been around for several years so they must be doing something right! They have very good Chinese food. I was a bit disappointed when they brought me packets of Duck Sauce and spicy mustard but there was a reason.
They have a dining area but they obviously do more Take Out business. They offer very good Sushi with many choices as well. While I was dining, there were many takeout orders being picked up and many were for the Sushi.

The Dining Room is a bit dated and the booths are a somewhat worn. The ambiance is OK and the service is very good. Cheers!

B- The quaint place sitting on the side of a busy road is hard to see but well worth the stop. The staff is friendly enough nothing impressive about them. The food though is great. We’ve sat in this restaurant on several occasions. The sushi is fresh n rolled perfectly. The variety of flavors work together to provide a unique experience. The price is okay not too expensive but also not cheap if ordering sushi.
Hubs enjoys the sesame chicken. Not overly sweet and it comes with rice cooked perfectly.
