Such a cute walk up spot with wonderful food and super friendly owners. The burritos are phenomenal. Any time I am in SD I have to go to Sara’s at least once. They have a wide variety of Mexican food to pick from and it’s made to perfection each time. Plus you might get a friendly hello from their sweet puppy! Great food and cute puppy.. can’t beat that!

Always so good we had to come back a seasond time ! I recommend the chocolate chip pancakes!

Hidden Gem for Taco Lovers

During my California taco adventure, I stumbled upon a small hole-in-the-wall taco joint that delivered an unforgettable dining experience. Here’s a closer look:

The Food (5/5)
The food here is nothing short of spectacular. I ordered the Al Pastor tacos, prepared Mexican-style, and they were a revelation. Each bite burst with flavor—the perfectly marinated pork was tender, juicy, and complemented by fresh toppings that elevated the entire dish.

I also tried their queso birria and consommé, which were easily among the best I’ve ever had. The birria was rich and savory, with just the right balance of spices, and dipping the tacos into the consommé was pure bliss. The depth of flavor in the consommé was remarkable, making it a must-order for anyone visiting.

The Service (5/5)
The service was top-notch, despite the restaurant’s humble appearance. The staff was friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about the food they were serving. They made sure our dining experience was seamless and enjoyable, going above and beyond to make us feel welcome.

The Atmosphere (4/5)
As a small hole-in-the-wall spot, this place keeps things simple with only outdoor seating. While the outdoor vibe was charming and casual, it might not be for everyone, especially if you’re looking for a more polished or cozy indoor setting. That said, the focus here is clearly on the food, and it more than makes up for the lack of ambiance.

Additional Perks
This spot also offers a Taco Tuesday deal, with tacos priced at just $2.49 each. Considering the outstanding quality, this is an unbeatable deal that will keep you coming back for more.

Final Verdict
This unassuming taco joint proves that great food doesn’t need frills. From the bold flavors of the Al Pastor tacos to the incredible queso birria and consommé, every dish was prepared with care and authenticity. While the atmosphere was simple, the exceptional food and service made it a standout experience.

Final Rating:
Food: 5/5
Service: 5/5
Atmosphere: 4/5
Overall: 4.7/5

If you’re looking for phenomenal tacos at a great price, especially on Taco Tuesday, this is the place to go. Don’t let its modest appearance fool you—it’s a true culinary treasure.

Just delicious and an underrated spot. I’ll be back at Sara’s anytime I’m down in San Diego.

I really appreciate the full vegan menu which you don’t see often at an authentic burrito stand. Ordered the soyrizo quesadilla and was not disappointed. The tortilla was fresh, flavorful beans, and liked the vegan cheese. My friend got the Beach Cali which was beyond good and perfect for walking over to the beach to enjoy.

I’m sure anything on the menu is amazing. If you’re at mission beach, eat at Sara’s!

California burritos are every 100 yards in SD but this is one of the better California burritos you’ll have. Hard to explain but it almost melts in your mouth, the carne, cheese, right down to the tortilla. Its just different that type of good. Wow. Wow. Well done Sara’s. No picture because I finished it before I could take one

We ordered dinner for the family. Side of guacamole does NOT include chips. Also, the guacamole was terrible. Otherwise tacos and burritos were decent. Portions were generous. The 4.4 star rating on Google maps does not bode well for other Mexican restaurants in the area.

It was good food, but not amazing. We got the Al Pastor burrito and the Hi Andres! Burrito. Both burritos were good just not stand out amazing. The Al Pastor was a little better for having more flavor. The Hi Andres was good and had good Carne asada but a TON of sauce. But both good, is close to our rental condo. And we were happy for a late dinner after coming back from LA Jolla.

Randomly found this spot. Low key area with friendly staff and fast service. I order a bean and chesse burrito which was good. Some Mexican places are a hit or miss but there’s have 2 kinds of chesse. White and yellow. They also have great rice and I am really picky about my rice.
My only issue is the prices are bit higher than my usual places. So I won’t be going out of my way.

Delicious burritos with the best fresh tortillas. We got the Al pastor and fish. We preferred the Al pastor more- lots of flavour. My family ordered a variety of things and all thoroughly enjoyed them!

I like it but not my preference. It may be a California Mexican style (vs Texas/South) but I still enjoyed it. It’s easily a strong 3 star (a possible 4 star — probably need to go a few more times to increase my rating)

Fish taco? Good. Very fishy but nice crunch. I’m not a corn tortilla kind of guy so it “loses” points.

Their street pastor? Really good. My friend didn’t like the guacamole on it but I did.

The 5 taco deal? Good portion. Beans, fine. I don’t like the taco style wrap (very similar to an enchilada).

Overall, good. Average. Close to my short term rental condo/house. I will still recommend bc it is good (just not amazingly good).

No frills and unassuming exterior but don’t let that steer you away from their amazing street tacos. Get the asada and birria tacos, they are big, generously filled, and totally delicious. The tortillas are homemade. I’m going back for a burrito tomorrow. Customer service is fast and friendly too. It’s take out only which worked great since I’m an Airbnb guest and just brought my order back with me. Give this place a try when visiting Mission Beach.
