Sugarloaf Frostie has been a favorite my whole life. Reasonably price, great tasting food – whether it’s a burger, grinder, salmon sandwich, fries or anything else on the menu. The soft serve and hard ice cream are also a hit.
The only thing to know is it is a cash only. business.
Updating in 2025: still as awesome as ever.

Expensive price. We ordered large fries ($7) and chicken tenders ($10). A cup of fries and 4 tenders shouldn’t be $17. We then got a small soft serve for $4.50. It tasted like a soft serve.

This place has gotten so mid. It used to be good, but now it’s definitely not giving. The mozzarella sticks were actual sticks now, they are big balls so when my grandma and I took a bite of it, there was an ice cube of cheese inside. The hotdogs used to be so good, now they are just good. Same about the hamburger. Getting the macaroni balls was a big mistake. This whole meal was insanely expensive for down graded quality. Good service though.

One of the best places to get soft serve ice cream as well of a wide variety of hard serve ice cream and food that includes sea food like sandwiches hot dogs and drinks… It’s also on the bus route in the 31 that goes to sunderland. It opens up at 11 am and they take cash only for payment

I’ve been here a few times when visiting Mt. Sugarloaf & I must be honest, it’s not the cheapest or fastest place for ice cream/food…however, I did give a decent review, because they do have a variety of tasty sweet treats & other good food to eat! First off, I will tell you a small sundae here costs $9! That’s a bit pricey in my opinion. I could see $5-$7, but almost $10? Also very important to know, this restaurant only accepts cash, no credit or other forms of payment accepted! It bothered me that this was not posted in a more noticeable way! As you approach the counter to order, you’ll see very small signs that read “Cash Only!” I would be pretty upset to wait such a long time only to get up to place my order & realize that they don’t accept credit, if I only was carrying cards & no cash. Nowadays most people do only carry credit rather than cash! Anyhow, so that’s something they should really consider changing for customer’s benefit. Also, extremely long wait (at least on weekends) because of the amount of visitors, as well as slow service by staff (sorry, just being honest!) I noticed that the young lady who took my order had to actually use a calculator, rather than simply typing it on a cash register which would usually then give the total. I just found this method so outdated, like the “cash only”. Anyhow, many great ice cream flavors here. Milkshakes, dips, waffle cone bowls, Avalanche (think McDonald’s McFlurry or Dairy Queen’s Blizzard.) One thing I thought was odd, was how staff informed me that because we had ordered a large Avalanche to share that we were allowed 3 different mix in’s, or we could triple up on our chosen one (peanut butter cup). So we decided to triple up, yet when we got the delightful treat we noticed a very average amount of peanut butter cups. I mean it wasn’t like they didn’t give us a decent amount but certainly not triple, it was more just like a regular one without any extra candy as offered. They do have picnic tables & plenty of other food options for those not interested in ice cream, such as hot dogs, burgers, sandwiches (grilled cheese, Reuben, etc…), seafood, french fries, baked beans. I’d recommend trying it at least once because the quality of it is good. They could afford to be a little less expensive though, considering they’re always pretty busy & get lots of tourists I’m sure from Mt. Sugarloaf which is very close by. I wish the lines weren’t so lengthy either as previously mentioned, because no one wants to stand in a line (especially in the heat) for 10/15+ just for a few ice cream treats or quick bite. Usually places of its kind are known for quick service & most often cheap (but good) food..

This place feels like pure summer! We love going here and sitting out at their tables. They have a bunch hard ice cream flavors and with their frozen yogurts, they offer a variety of additions of dips and sprinkles. To us, the atmosphere feels somehow like several decades prior, and we love it.

Sure it’s cash only, but you can’t beat great food, great service and great location.

My husband and l went last night and we were very unhappy with the sundaes that we got. I ordered a small Reese’s Peanut butter cup sundae with hard ice cream( it was 1 scoop)and l didn’t have any fudge and a drop of peanut butter topping it. I think they put a little chopped up peanut butter cup in it. It was pathetic, for the price of it. My husband got a large upside down Banana Split with hard ice cream( 1 scoop as well on the large) and same cup size as mine. It took forever to get when he brought it over there wasn’t any banana in it, and hardly no pineapple or strawberry or fudge. He took it up to the window and told the girl, all she said was sorry about that. We spent $25.00 including the tip. I am not impressed and probably won’t go back. Penny Bernier

Cute place for a bite to eat. It’s right on 116 so you think it’d be loud, and it can be if a truck or a bunch of bikes are passing by, but there’s a beautiful little stripe of trees between the seating area and the road that serves as a nice buffer. Plus you have a great view of Sugarloaf mountain from there! The hot dogs are great, the ice cream is better! Of note, the port-o-potty outback can get pretty warm on hot days.
