Gosh, I love this place. From the jazz/r&b that transports you back in time to the phenomenal cocktails, Magdalena makes you feel like you stepped into an LA gem, not Indianapolis.
Highly recommend the pimento cheese to start, the sazarec-cured salmon. And can never go wrong if the Crawfish Monica is in season and on the menu.
Best kept secret: the happy hour from 5-6 pm.

Really excellent and exciting food like heirloom rice and beans from new Orleans, Oaxacan mole, and dishes inspired by local produce. The cocktails and wine selection are world class!!! A shocking amount of rare spirits from Mexican mezcals to Austrian aquavits. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Could not recommend more if you are in Indy!

Fantastic experience at magdalena tonight. Food and cocktails were both outstanding and inventive. Some of things on the menu aren’t for me but on the flip side, you can’t get things like Turtle Soup anywhere else in the city. I’d recommend it to anybody looking for a great classy dinner.

As a southerner with a fond love for southern comfort food, New Orleans culture, and all things delicious, my foodie husband and I found ourselves in awe of the excellence of Magdalena.
Tucked into one of the coolest neighborhoods in Indy, Magdalena offers an unparalleled cocktail menu that is only surpassed by the friendliness of the owner Nick and his crew. A visit isn’t complete without the cocktail named “Straight Up”, which is simply one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. Nick is an encyclopedia of knowledge on all things alcohol, making any cocktail or wine a truly curated experience.
Everything here is cooked with heart and southern soul, but not heavy and ready to put you a slumber — a true magical balance. The food is excellent to share with friends or for a refined date night. Kudos to Nick and his team for showing Indy something spectacular.
The seasonal influence of the menu makes it hard to recommend any one particular dish, but if you find chicken livers on the menu, get them.

We had a great experience here on Thursday before a show at the nearby HiFi. All of the cocktails were good, we tried several each! They do have a happy hour from 5-6 on cocktails at half price. They had two varieties of raw East coast oysters which were good, we enjoyed the deep fried saltines and whitefish dip as an appetizer, along with the kimchi crab claws which had a nice spice to them! For main entrees we shared the fried chicken livers and the stuffed collards, both of which were tasty. The cornbread bread pudding was excellent for dessert. Service was also very good.

Incredible dining experience. We had the oysters, duck gumbo, the ribeye and a handful of drinks. Great food and great service. Will definitely be coming back! We spent for 2 people $228 with 3-4 drinks per person, but the value was there.

Fantastic! Just what the foodies in this city needs.
The ambiance was stunning. I had to the gin fizz cocktail. I love a good egg white cocktail and this did not disappoint.
We ordered oysters. The servers suggested this as we aren’t big raw oyster fans. We were so surprised when we absolutely loved these.
Had the whitefish dip (pefecttion with the fried saltines). The stuffed collard greens with boudin was really good. Although my husband and I are quite familiar with New Orleans boudin and this had their twist on it.
But the star in my opinion were the fried chicken livers. Absolutely fantastic. Tossed in a sweet sauce and served with chicory and tangy dressing and the fried saltines it was a perfect combination.
The staff was very friendly and super knowledgeable.

Tried it out for the first time and let me tell you, I was impressed. We ordered the focaccia, the seafood tower and some oysters. The tower was such a treat, so much variety for the price and definitely could serve as a meal. The flavors were so varied and refreshing in everything we tried. Construction made it a little hard to get to but the journey is worth it. Thank you Katherine and Nick!!!
