Social Profile:

Uptown first opened its doors in 1949 as a neighborhood gathering place on Austin’s Eastside—a place to drink, watch the game, and hold court. Over the years, it became part of the daily rhythm of the neighborhood. Today, Uptown has found a second life thanks to Aaron Franklin and a small group of friends united by their love for Austin. Same building. Same neighborhood. Same soul—thoughtfully reimagined for today. Uptown remains what it’s always been at heart: a place to eat, drink, gather, and stay awhile.

Uptown is a nice, easygoing spot for a sit-down meal. The menu sticks to familiar American dishes, done well without trying too hard. We ordered a couple mains and everything came out hot and tasted fresh. Portions were good for the price, and nothing felt rushed. Service was friendly and checked on us a few times, but let us enjoy the meal. It’s a good choice for a casual dinner or meeting up with friends when you want something reliable.

Great find. Frankly, we just needed a lunch place near the Hilton Garden Inn in d/t Austin for some out of town folks & it did the job.

While I wouldn’t get the tuna tartare again, the rest was great for regular American fare. For $22, I can probably make 3 servings. The waitress was amazing. Sorry I forgot her name & the ambience was solid.

I ordered several items and was disappointed with the food overall.

The Fried Chicken & Mac ($20) was bone-in, which I wasn’t expecting, and I wasn’t provided a knife. More concerning, the chicken appeared pink. When I brought this to the server’s attention, I was asked whether it was still okay to eat. Maybe it was, but I wasn’t willing to take that risk.

The Hot Roast Beef ($17.5) was described as tender roast beef with brisket debris gravy and horseradish sauce, but it came across more like ground beef. The sandwich itself was very wet, which made it unappealing.

The Potato Salad ($4) with buttermilk and herbs was good. The Onion Dip ($7) was fine. The Hushpuppies ($8) were just okay.

Overall, I was disappointed with the food. The Uptown Sports Club space itself looks great.

This place really took me by surprise. I have always seen it but never been. We came on a Sunday around noon just when it started getting busy. We got seated right away and our server was really tentative. Our food came out quickly as well. I didn’t know Austin had a Louisiana-Texas inspired restaurant and we really liked our food! Getting Gumbo and Red Beans & Rice in Austin is really refreshing LOL everything we had was good. I want to come back and try the dinner menu!

Really enjoyed our food. We got the gumbo, red beans & rice, gravalox, and crab & shrimp salad—all of it was delicious, and our favorites were the latter two. We’ll definitely return!

2nd visit in 2 months. First time on a Saturday, second time on a Sunday. It was very easy to get a table on a Sunday night compared to other nights when the place is packed. Service was very slow. Took about 10 minutes before we were greeted. Drinks took about 10 minutes to arrive. The drinks were prepared and sitting at the bar waiting on the server. Eventually the hostess grabbed them and brought them to us. The food was pretty good. Fried chicken was on point, oysters were fresh and delicious, fish poboy was very good, steak frit was a miss. It’s just a thin ribeye. Nothing special. We also got a basket of fries, but it seemed like we got the bottom of the basket because there were lots of tiny fries and crumbs that should have been dumped. The atmosphere is great. If you’re sensitive to noise and have a hard time hearing people you may want to sit outside. It’s noisy inside and the music is a tad too loud. Fail of the night was this….this is the second time we’ve been there and the 2nd time they had NO shrimp in the house. They were out. We’ll be back for sure. More attentive service would make this place go from good to great.

Atmosphere was great. It felt like you walked off the Austin streets straight into NOLA. But that’s where the positive experience ended. We regularly spend weekends in New Orleans but haven’t been in a few months. We thought this would get us excited about our next trip but it’s just made me more frustrated. The Shrimp Creole and redfish were SALTY. The kale, grits AND gravy were too salty, the shrimp themselves were fishy. The redfish had 5+ bones in them along with being too salty. They comped it no problem and gave us bread pudding to-go. My kid thought it was a biscuit. It was way more bread than any bread pudding Ive ever seen.
Our server was “nice” but had to be flagged down to order another drink, appetizers and even our meal. It felt like we were bothering her. The staff doesn’t need to be my best friend but damn, I shouldn’t be begging to get food AT A RESTAURANT.
Next trip to NOLA is in 3 weeks and can’t come soon enough to get this disappointing taste out of my mouth.

Dog friendly patio, really quick service. The oysters were really good and the fried green tomato po’boy, haven’t had one of those maybe ever.

I went there about a week ago. The place reminded me of New Orleans right away. We ordered the po boy shrimp samdwich and the chips with caramelized onion dip off the lunch menu and the brisket sandwich off the specials. All the food was very good. Highly recommend that caramelized onion dip, delicious. The service was amazing as well! Lots of good vibes and good food overall.

This is a high class establishment with a middle class price tag. Their local craft beers are delicious, and their burgers are to die for. Food is made to order with particular attention to special requests. Elijah was a great staff member, but really everyone I interacted with was courteous and professional. This really supercharged my day.
