This place is beautiful. Every meal was so well balanced with flavours from both Australia and Mexico. The chef was so friendly and came out for each meal and explained everything. Such great service and a good vibe.

Had such a wonderful experience at Sonora! The service was phenomenal and so friendly. The margaritas were fantastic. The food was so tasty. My favorite was the beef tongue—so simple yet so well prepared and so flavorful. Sonora beautifully blends simplicity, flavor, and elevation!

Had a great time at Sonoma Mexican for bottomless brunch. The food was delicious, the drinks kept coming, and the overall vibe was perfect. Our server, Harry, was amazing—super attentive, friendly, and made sure everything ran smoothly the entire time. Excellent service and a fun brunch spot. 3 of us had a most disappointing meal here last night. Concrete benches and equally uncomfortable seats would have been fine with good food and service, but sadly that wasn’t to be.

The place was barely half full at 8pm, but the server warned us that everyone had turned up at the same time, but they were doing the best they could.

Fair enuf, I guess, but there were only 3 ppl working there, 2 in the kitchen the server (who was actually pretty cool and why I’ve given 3 stars).

Order took ages to take, and drinks to ages to turn up.

Then there’s their reimagined Mexican food using Aussie produce. I mean … that really should be an amazing opportunity, but the chef has decided to take bizarre things and try and make the place Michelin star worthy.

Beef tongue tacos, seriously? Who in their right mind would want that?

The octopus tacos was a 3 inch long tentacle that had the consistency and toughness of inch thick rope.

The pork quesadilla was reasonable, I guess, albeit in what appeared to be a shop bought tortilla.

The tomato salad was tiny, half the size of the salad the table of 3 were served, whom we shared jokes with over how average everything was.

The “Wagyu” steak had some authentic Mexican flavour to it, but there was nothing Wagyu about it with zero marbling of the steak, which was, to be fair, quite well cooked. But still dripping blood, which just indicated to a meat monkey like myself that they really didn’t know how to cook a steak properly.

And $80 for a set menu with limited options?

Overall, this was my worst Mexican food experience pretty much ever, and I’ve had food poising from street food in Mexico City and also eaten a lot of Taco Bell

Concrete playground nailed it! Their pick for best Mexican in Sydney is spot on. l can confirm it’s a must-visit!

Their tacos are a flavour fiesta, and the endless margaritas menu is a dream come true. The menu’s a work of art, showcasing the best of Aussie ingredients. The place was so intimate, cosy & romantic and the food was incredible. Every bite was perfection, but the tacos, wagyu, and chocolate dessert stole the show (that ganache-like texture, though!)

Our dining experience was absolutely amazing, and we’re already planning our next visit to discover more of their amazing dishes! Hurry up and book

Ate here a few months ago but had such a memorable date night dinner here. Booked the day of without any fuss. We were recommended margaritas but I prefer mezcal and they kindly accommodated my preference and made mezcalitas. The food was super special. The barramundi collars, the octopus dish, and chilli dessert were especially memorable. Staff were so kind and friendly. We spoke to the chef, who is clearly passionate about true Mexican flavours. Lovely evening

Bottomless birthday lunch experience was an absolute rip off. The margaritas were flowing but were obviously so diluted no one was even tipsy after a two hour lunch. The food was almost inedible and very poor value. We chose Senora as we’d experienced the bottomless lunch before and it was excellent. I understand the economy has forced restaurants to cut costs where they can but this was so disappointing, we won’t be back. We had a vegan diner, her tacos were unseasoned and pathetic. The service was good, but the food slow to appear.

Every dish got better and better with the highlight being the Barramundi collars. Service was impeccable and the atmosphere was great. Chilled, relaxed vibes and didn’t have to shout over each other to be heard. Great date spot and we will definitely be back.

Let’s just say that this restaurant is not everyone’s cup of tea. If you want authentic Mexican or even classic white washed Mexican food, this is not the place to go.

The food tastes weird – has a lot of weird twists in each dish. Very small portions – fine dining type of portions, though I wouldn’t class the restaurant as fine dining type, or even the fancy type. It feels like the place is giving ‘fake fancy’

However, the service was good. We feel like we’re being looked after. There was a Latina life music.

We’re just disappointed that we had to pay too much money for a food that was not even good, or filling at all.
