Tacos El Gordo #2 is hands-down one of the best taco spots in Springfield. Every time we visit, the service is fast, friendly, and consistently on point. The staff is attentive without being overbearing, and they always make sure our food arrives hot and fresh—even during busy hours.

Their dollar taco nights are a game-changer. You get incredible flavor and quality without breaking the bank. The meats are perfectly seasoned, the tortillas are warm and soft, and everything is made with care. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or feeding a crowd, they never disappoint.

What really sets them apart is the atmosphere—welcoming, clean, and full of good energy. It’s clear they take pride in what they do, and it shows in every detail.

If you’re looking for great tacos, great prices, and even better service, Tacos El Gordo #2 is the place to go. Highly recommend!

The fresh strawberry tamales were absolutely delicious! The decor was amazing. The staff was nice, helpful, and checked on our table often. The Buffett had many things I had never had before. It is definitely an authentic Mexican restaurant. Great price. I had the lunch buffet for $13.99

I saw some buzz on Facebook about an authentic Mexican buffet in Springfield, so the next morning I jumped in the car and made my way to Tacos El Gordo #2 on South Campbell—and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.

From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was clean and welcoming. I was seated right away and invited to help myself to the buffet. And what a spread it was—homemade tamales, baked chicken, menudo, pozole rojo, caldo de res, Mexican rice, and perfectly cooked frijoles. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and genuinely authentic.

At just $13, it’s an absolute steal—and the buffet is only available Tuesdays and Sundays, all day long. Honestly, it’s worth the drive, even if you’re coming from an hour away. Highly recommend if you’re craving the real deal!

Grub Score 8.3/10.0

This is my first time here I ordered the pupusa mixed. And I will be back with very very good. One of the best ones I’ve ever tasted. I tried their buffet. I was a little disappointed in it, but I could come after the lunch hour rush so that’s my fault. I wanted to sample their food so I thought the Buffet was the best way. This seems their buffet has a lot of soup tight items on it. But flavor, let me tell you oh my goodness the flavor was awesome. Next time I’m going to order me a plate of pupusa mixed.

We went for the $1 tacos. They were fine, but very small. I got five and my wife got four. We’re not big eaters, but we definitely could’ve eaten more. We ended up leaving and getting pizza. I’m not sure I’d come back specifically for the $1 tacos, but I’d be open to trying some of their other offerings.

Went there in the middle of the weekend hoping to get their advertised buffet. It was the first Mexican buffet that we were really excited to go to. Walked in the door, found out on a piece of paper inside the door that the buffet hours are limited and only some days during the week. We were told by a worker near the door that “Yeah that’s always been that way. And yes, we only post it here”
We left annoyed, disappointed and hungry.
Based off that small experience, the group I went with is very cautious to return EVER. Many people I’ve talked to about this experience have said that the employees have no actual customer service (rude and loud) as well.

Food was delicious. My husband had their Matchette ( so good and huge), and I had the Fajitas Hawaii. We also had the empanadas, which were my favorite. I wouldn’t order the Fajitas Hawaii again, I didn’t love the yellow cheese melted on top, and trying to get it out of the pineapple was awkward. However, the meat, peppers, and shrimp were tender and piping hot. The tortillas that came with the Fajitas were fantastic. We took extra home.
Service was great, and our server was super helpful and friendly. Can’t wait to go back and try other menu options!

The buffet was really good, alot to try! They need to have sour cream, shredded cheese, lettuce and definitely diced onions to put on your tacos other than that you won’t leave hungry. Also I recommend mango margaritas, omg amazing! The best!

Went in to try the buffet. It was good for buffet food, the spice level was medium to low, but the food was good. You’d probably have to order off the menu for spicy food. The staff were friendly and helpful the restaurant was very clean.
