I finally got around to trying this place out and had pretty high expectations based on everything I had seen online. Needless to say, they surpassed all the expectations I had. The older gentleman taking/preparing orders makes you feel right at home. He was so kind and had a nice little conversation with him and the customer in line ahead of me, you can tell they care about a great customer experience.
The food itself was amazing and you got great portions for the price. The Simple D with Brisket/Slaw/Pickles and a little extra sauce on top absolutely blew me away. I also got a Brisket plate with Collards and a Pulled Pork plate with Baked Beans and have to say they were the best collards I’ve ever had, the brisket just pulled right apart and had an amazing smoke ring, and the pork was a little on the fattier side (not a big deal to me but may be to some) but was absolutely delicious. I had to get a side of the Cheesy Mac and was so glad I did, I ended up just eating the entire little container on its own.
Definitely one of the top BBQ places in the area and highly recommend trying it. I’ll definitely be back soon for wings and ribs.

Love this place!! Wonderful people and absolutely delicious food. I ordered the brisket plate and it was great! My 5 year old son was with me and wanted a hotdog but that wasn’t on menu. Next thing I know they got him a plate with sliced up sausage and some mashed potatoes with cheese and bread and told me it was on the house. How wonderful as we were going to go to sonic for his meal. Please try them out!

We just stumbled upon Double D’s while driving through the area. Hands down the best decision we could have made! Refreshing to find a locally owned gem like this in the sea of corporate chains. The meat was incredibly tender and smoked perfectly. The sauces were super tasty as well! All five people in my party thoroughly enjoyed their meals! The staff was so incredibly friendly too. Highly recommended!!!!

The teenage girl who works upfront was extremely friendly. She explained the menu to us thoroughly since it was our first time. They didn’t have a kid menu so she offered to adjust prices for small portions to accommodate children. We dined in. She kept checking on us and stood and talked to us for all while as we were the only customers in the restaurant.
The brisket/ pulled pork was room temperature. I would have preferred it to be hot. They food had been sitting out cafeteria style for her to serve but should have been kept on a burner to keep warm. The mac and cheese was a bit bland. And I would suggest cornbread or a different type of bread, rather than light bread out of the bag from the grocery store.
Also they didn’t have some basic supplies like cups and straws as they only serve bottled beverages.
The restaurant has great potential. Hopefully, as their business grows they can improve in lots of areas. Just sharing my honest opinion.

Been here three times already and I must say, it is the best BBQ in the state of Virginia.. South Hill was in need of some good food and boy oh boy does Double D’s bring it. The meatloaf sandwich is excellent.. The brisket? You have to try it for yourself because no words I jot down here will give it justice..
As far as the atmosphere, it’s very clean and up-to-date. The service is excellent and everyone is so welcoming and friendly!

This smokehouse is one of a kind and out of this world! Ron is so kind, with quintessentially southern hospitality. We chatted with him for a while, learned about his background and met his daughter. It’s a really lovely family owned establishment.
We had the brisket, chicken wings and the turkey. Everything was so delicious, tender, and succulent.
I recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves smoked meats. If you’re in the area, forget about those massive chain restaurants that don’t care about you! Go to Double D’s!!!!

We stopped here today while on a road trip and were delighted by both the food and the service. Fantastic family-owned business. Excellent brisket, pulled pork, and Mac n cheese. Awesome desserts too!! Left with a full belly and heart. 🙂
