The food was mediocre but the service was worse than the food. I came in and no one paid me any attention. I had to seat myself and go up to the front counter to ask for a menu. The waitress only came to the table to take my order and serve my food. I had to go to the front counter to ask for salsa and once again to get my check and pay for my food. It wasnt busy I was the only customer there. I asked for corn tortillas but they brought me flour tortillas, probably because im white they assume all white people eat flour. It seems like the spanish speaking customers were getting better service here. I ordered the Nicaraguan Steak. The steak wasn’t bad, I liked the way it was seasoned and the onions on the steak were delicious. The beans that came with the plate were herrendous, they were barely luke warm, so cold that the cheese on top didnt even melt and they probably came from a can. The rice was mediocre at best. I wouldn’t come here again more because of the bad service than the mediocre food. The meal cost $14.12 with tax.

Have eaten there twice. Food was good but each time,we were way overcharged. Last time, we had 3 asada tacos, a side of rice & beans, 1 can dr pepper and our ticket was over $30.00!!!

Stopped by going through town for breakfast. It was a pleasant change. Food was good, large portions and the staff very friendly.

Informal dining where you seat yourself. Small, quaint dining with both Mexican and Niguaran dishes.

Our first time to visit. This now our favorite Mexican /Nicaraguan restaurant. From the Nicaraguan grilled chicken, fried plantains, Mexican cheese enchiladas , Mexican chicken enchiladas and hard taco with beans we were pleasantly surprised with the freshness and quality . We at first thought the prices may be a little high but 3 of us have enough left over for a small meal. We received a combination of quality and value.

This restaurant is a hidden gem. I recently ate here after a friend recommended it. I was surprised I hadn’t been before, considering I’ve lived in Liberal for so many years.
The food was so exquisitely prepared that it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. I have never craved a hasty return to a restaurant so much in my entire life. Remember that scene in Ratatouille where the food critic tastes the dish at the end and just closes his eyes to flash back to his childhood? That was me, tasting my meal at El Gallo Pinto. My life is changed.
I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. You are missing out if you have not tried it.

Excellent food! Unique dishes that I’ve not had elsewhere, Nicaragua and Mexican food. Definitely recommend this place and will go again if I’m going through town.
