Golden Steer recently opened its New York location at One Fifth Avenue in January and it clearly arrived with a lot of ambition. The restaurant leans heavily into classic steakhouse theatrics and polished hospitality and in many ways they succeed in creating a memorable dining room experience.

We started with the complimentary bread service. The rolls were decent but ultimately forgettable. At a restaurant operating at this level I expected something a bit more refined or memorable.

Next came the Caesar salad which is promoted as one of their signature dishes. The salad itself was good. The dressing was balanced and well prepared. However at $23 per person it felt like you are paying more for the tableside presentation than for the salad itself. It is enjoyable but it does not stand out enough to justify the price.

For the main course we ordered the 24oz ribeye. The steak was cooked perfectly to a medium rare with a great temperature and a nice sear. That said it was noticeably under seasoned. A finishing touch of Maldon sea salt would have elevated the flavor significantly. It was a solid steak but in a city like New York where great steakhouses are everywhere we have definitely had better.

The sides were a mixed bag. The macaroni and cheese was excellent and one of the highlights of the meal. It was rich creamy and comforting and we actually preferred the classic version over the one paired with steak. The twice baked potato was massive but otherwise fairly ordinary. Filling but nothing particularly memorable.

Dessert was the bananas foster which again leaned more toward presentation than pure flavor. It was good but clearly designed to be a show stopping tableside moment.

The drinks were enjoyable. My girlfriend ordered the New York Fizz which was essentially a riff on a whiskey sour. We expected something closer to a Ramos style fizz with a thicker more velvety foam but it leaned more sour forward. I ordered the house lager brewed by Bushwick’s KCBC and that beer was excellent.

Where Golden Steer truly excels is in the service and the room itself. Our server Marco was fantastic and clearly knew the menu inside and out. The entire front of house team was warm attentive and professional. The interior design is beautiful and the space feels polished and thoughtfully constructed.

For two people the total came to about $265 before tip which places it firmly in the price range of New York’s classic steakhouses.

Golden Steer delivers a strong atmosphere and excellent hospitality but the food itself does not quite reach the same level as some of the city’s best steakhouse options.

Overall I would give it 4/5 stars largely because of the ambiance and service.

Tonight, I had the pleasure of celebrating with an exceptional dinner at New York’s Golden Steer. Having visited the Las Vegas location for years, it has long been a must-dine destination for me, and having it so close to home is truly exciting.

We began with a seafood tower that was among the freshest I have experienced in the United States. The lobster was perfectly prepared, the crab was sweet and delicate, and the two varieties of oysters were outstanding. Everything was beautifully complemented by firm yet succulent shrimp.

Next, we enjoyed the tableside Caesar salad, which was prepared with care and precision directly at our table. For the main course, the steaks and lobster tail were simply delicious, while the creamed spinach and roasted Brussels sprouts were equally memorable.

To conclude the evening, the tableside cherries jubilee—complete with a flambé presentation—was the perfect finishing touch to an already exquisite meal.

The staff was gracious and accommodating from the moment we arrived, working together seamlessly to create an exceptional dining experience. I will most certainly be returning. Welcome to New York, Golden Steer—it was absolutely worth the wait.

The moment you walk in, you are greeted by the amazing and highly trained staff of the Golden Steer awaiting your arrival. Then we have Matt, a manager that takes absolute pride in his work and it shows. After checking in we begin at the bar. There we meet Paula, the countess of mixology behind the bar. With amazing precision, skill and dedication, she prepares and pours some incredible cocktails. She is as friendly as can be and highly knowledgeable. Shortly after, we are invited over by SJ’s beautiful smile as she asks how our drinks were, and informing us our table is ready. A short walk through the beautifully decorated dining room and we are seated. Comfortable, warm and not over crowded. No tight uncomfortable seating here, not at the Steer folks. Pauly our server handles his job with confidence and skill. He takes us on a tour of the menu and helps us with suggestions that were spot on and welcomed. We could not decide on a appetizer and went with his suggestion of the garlic shrimp (absolutely delicious) however Matt said no, there is no way you can come to the Golden Steer NYC and NOT try the most delicate, tender and flavorful octopus you’ve ever had. We now owe him our gratitude because that dish was everything you can possibly imagine. First, Nicola while providing some welcomed history prepared the Steers famous table side Caesar salad… just the OMG of salads here for sure. It was perfection and she could not have been more pleasant. I went with the 24oz.bone in ribeye. A choice that will impress any steak lover at a PERFECT medium-rare. Unfortunately there was no way I could have dessert but I’m not upset because I will be going back before the month is over. All in all a better restaurant experience to be had would be near impossible. I would go back just to get to hang out with SJ and Matt, let alone everyone else. Thank you all for everything.

I went with my friends and we all loved it. The food was honestly so good. The steak was cooked perfectly and the flavor literally stayed with me after juicy, rich, and just done right.

The mac and cheese? Wow. Not your typical mac at all. It was super creamy and flavorful definitely a standout.

They also had great mocktail options, which I really appreciated. The whole vibe felt classic and cozy. I’d definitely go back.

Impeccable taste in both decor and menu, Golden Steer is a shopstopping experience for any occasion. With a long history from the Vegas scene, Golden Steer upholds the precedence of excellence.

The shrimp de Jonghe and the filet mignon tartare are the perfect combo to start off any meal. Tableside caesar is a nice touch, providing a transition into the main event. The prime rib is a signature all its own, but throw in any combination of sides to round it out. Don’t sleep on dessert, tableside cherries jubilee is a worthy encore.

My wife and I went to Golden Steer at One Fifth on Friday and wow! We started at the bar with cocktails, an Old Fashioned and a Last Word, both of which were excellent. The housemade potato chips were a phenomenal addition. Then we went to our table and got the Shrimp de Jonghe and the bone marrow to start; both were unreal. I had the Caesar salad, which was prepared tableside perfectly. Then we each had the 12 oz Filet Mignon with a Lobster Tail. Genuinely one of the best steaks I’ve had; perfectly pink and so tender it basically fell apart. I’d also recommend the twice-baked potato as a side. We got the Cherries Jubilee for dessert, which was again prepared tableside, and it was incredible!

TLDR: Great food, great service, great venue! We’re already planning to go back!

Another best NYC experience. From the moment my friend and I walked in Friday night 02.06.26, SJ and Matt(GM), greeted us as if we had been patrons for years. Mind you, this place just opened two weeks ago. We were guided to the bar area to wait for our table and met Paula who prepared our drinks. With her, we laughed and reminisced of NY’s past and legendary places. The bar has that beautiful classic vibe with dark and warm tones. After the bar, finally the meal. Steak of course. Paulie, our server provided us with excellent service. He offered recommendations we accepted. Everything was delicious. We also met Nicola, who made our salad tableside. We were in good hands sharing stories and some laughs. The interior of the restaurant again, with those classic vibes and dark tones. After the meal, Paulie was kind enough to provide us a tour with an explanation of the artwork, photos and columns. Matt stopped by our table to inquiry about our meal. We were happy to say the staff and attention to detail are the restaurant’s complete delightful experience. Finally with our to go goody bags in hand we were met by some the staff on our way out. As for the pen I took home that has written on it “Stolen form the Golden Steer”, Matt said it was ok. Lol. Can’t wait to return with more friends.

We had an amazing dinner at the Golden Steer. From the moment we walked in, it felt like we were transported to an old-school Vegas steakhouse with an element of New York chic that met the moment perfectly. Loved our dinner. We had the prime rib and filet mignon and both were excellent. Do not miss the Gibson martini or the twice baked potato. Can’t wait for our next visit; thanks to SJ and Nicole for being the most welcoming and taking such good care of us!!

OMG!!!!!!!!I could not wait for the Golden Steer to come to NEW YORK! My husband and I had such a great time! Everything was EXCEPTIONAL. We are hoping to visit again soon. They did a very good job at imitating the original Golden Steer atmosphere. ERICK was the best, he communicated with us, gave us suggestions on the menu and made our overall experience A1! I got the chance to visit The Golden Steer LAS VEGAS and that was pure luck that we were able to get a reservation.
