Truly among the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Every server we’ve had when my wife and I have visited has been quite good, often exceptional. We love coming here for special occasions or just for the heck of it when we want something a little different or don’t feel like cooking.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the amazing butcher shop. Fantastic and unusual variety of high-end meats. Not cheap, but extremely high-quality. Today we’ll be leaving with some bison and camel ribeyes. Last time was Japanese A5 wagyu.
Definitely recommend

This was our first visit and we loved it! We went for New Years Eve dinner. They had the London celebration on the big screens and we celebrated New Years with London. We tried bruschetta for our appetizer and it was a wonderful flavor carnival in your mouth. The Cattleman’s Old Fashioned was a new experience for me and was well worth the money. For our dinner we had the fish and chips. We tried fish and chips in several pubs when we visited London and this restaurant had the best we have ever tasted! Overall a great dining experience and we will be returning again to try the Shepherds Pie.

Our first time dining at this restaurant. The food was fantastic; it was a bit oily, but it tasted way better than we expected. Our waitress was very nice and made sure we got the things we needed. I highly recommend the steak. I got the 18oz boneless ribeye, and I was impressed; they cooked it perfectly medium rare. Give it a try and you wont be disappointed

The Salty Cod in Athens has a butcher shop, Bakery and Public House. The Public House feels like a traditional English Pub. The back room bar area leads to the patio and the courtyard seating areas. The signs are themed like the Tube in London and there is a rise in the floor that says “mind the gap”. These touches make it feel like being in London.
The Fish in Chips were great and served on wax paper and wrapped in newspaper. The fish comes with tarter sauce, malt finger, and choice of mushy peas or curry sauce. The curry sauce was a better choice in my opinion. The fish was crispy and the chips were great. Will definitely visit again.

Elevated British Pub food, highly recommend!!! We saw the billboard on I65 South at Athens and made a short detour for lunch. The location is perfect, not far off the interstate in the square. The menu is so amazing it is hard to choose! I had their version of Bubble and Squeek (see menu pic) and hubby had Traditional Fish & Chips, which came hot and lightly breaded, wrapped in newspaper with instructions from the server on how to unwrap and enjoy. The bartender was delightful and informative when chatted up. Beer, wine and cocktail offerings are extensive: a properly poured Guiness, “Smiddicks” (Smithwicks’s) and more! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, very much like the pubs in London: the owners, one Irish (Chef Barry O’Connor) the other British. We’re off to check out the Butcher Shoppe, artisan gelatos and pastries also available next door (same owners).

This place is phenomenal!!! Service was on point and the food was amazing! Athens is very lucky to have this place. We have to drive 45 minutes to get here, but WELL WORTH IT! We found out their sister company is in Huntsville, which is less of a drive….but not the same by far. We will be back! I can’t believe it took this long to find this place.

Hubby and I love this place! The food is always very good and the service is excellent. Yesterday I had the Bubble and Squeak and hubby the Bangers and Mash. Very generous topping on the Bubble and Squeak! If there could be any improvement with at least these two dishes, I would say to serve it with a little less salt, and I mean just a tad less. I didn’t really notice the salt until I was halfway through eating my entree and only because they give you so much food. I was pleasantly surprised at the number of jumbo shrimp in the topping. Our waitress recommended adding grilled asparagus to the dish and I was so happy I did. Tender, awesome asparagus!

My husband and I were so excited to try this place. I’m going to be totally honest, I’m just so disappointed.
In full disclosure, this happened probably 6 months ago but we still regularly talk about how….. odd the experience was.
We live out of town but visit family in Athens regularly. We planned to come down a bit early to visit the salty cod, between 2-3pm. When we received our menus, we find out that everything is fried in beef tallow. Neither of us eat red meat so we ask if it would be possible to cook our fish any other way. After telling us that they can sear our piece of fish, they come back out and basically tell us not to come back. Our waitress came back specifically to tell us that if we were there during a busy time, they wouldn’t be able to serve us. Mind you, there were three other people in the entire restaurant when we were there. The grilled fish was not great.
I hope that other people have a more welcoming experience than we did. It’s a beautiful location and they did a great job with their advertising. Just left a bad taste.

I’m going to start this by saying this is the sister pub to Poppy & Parliment in Huntsville. We loved it. Nina was an amazing attentive server. I’ve never had a Pimms Cup and tried it. I liked it quite a bit. The food was delicious. I’ll leave a few pics for y’all.
