A beautiful formal restaurant with fine dining and seating. The atmosphere is wonderful and the staff attentive and courteous. The burger was amazing. Thr flour less cake to die for.

This is a great place to come and have a great home cooked meal. First of all – the owner and staff are genuinely nice people. And the drinks we had left me a bit tipsy (it’s a good thing), but they were so well prepared. Every bite I had was better than the previous one. I will definitely be going back and this time we’ll sit at the bar, which is what we typically like to do when there is an option (there bar upstairs was pretty cool, by the way).

I had a wonderful dining experience! The food was absolutely delicious, especially the pizza, and the martini was marvelous. The waitstaff was attentive and made sure everything was perfect. I sat out front and truly enjoyed the ambiance. Highly recommend!

Update: since we stayed next door for the week during the sailboat show, this was our go-to restaurant. Drew was phenomenal and very polite and helpful. Five that guy a raise!

We were excited to dine here for the first time on Christmas Eve, but unfortunately the experience was disappointing, both in terms of service and food.

When we made our reservation, we were told there would be a prix fixe menu, but it was never posted. We decided to keep our reservation anyway, as the regular menu sounded appealing. We were seated and greeted promptly, but then waited over an hour for our food.

When my lamb arrived, it looked beautiful, but it was completely unsalted and lacked flavor. The gnocchi was overcooked, dry, and chewy. My husband and parents ordered steaks and scallops, and all of them also commented that their dishes tasted underseasoned.

I felt for our waitress, who was clearly stretched thin and running between tables. The service suffered overall due to what appeared to be short staffing, and possibly a shortage in the kitchen as well. After such a long wait, it felt like the meals may have been rushed.

I understand that holidays are extremely busy and I wanted to give some grace, but the biggest disappointment was the food itself. Had we waited over an hour and been served outstanding meals, we would have felt much better about the experience. Instead, it was frustrating to spend nearly $300 on a meal where no one was satisfied—aside from our toddler, who had pizza. Not to mention that I wish they had brought my toddlers pizza out right away because some restaurants will do that for you so the kids can eat right away. I felt bad he had to wait so long and it was almost 8 by the time our food came with a 6:15 reservation.

Given the long wait and the quality of the food, we’re unsure if we’ll return or recommend this place.

Located directly across from the Maryland State House, Harry Browne’s Restaurant is a cornerstone of fine dining in Annapolis. With its rich history, elegant ambiance, and consistently outstanding cuisine, this establishment offers a complete and memorable dining experience. Whether you’re looking for a romantic evening, a weekend brunch, or a relaxing drink with friends, Harry Browne’s delivers on every level.

Elegant Dining Downstairs

The main dining room exudes classic sophistication. White tablecloths, historic decor, and views of State Circle create a timeless setting. The food here is exceptional—from the famous jumbo lump crab cakes (loaded with fresh crab and minimal filler) to the perfectly prepared rack of lamb, every dish is crafted with care and beautifully presented. Their brunch menu is equally impressive, offering selections like Crab Cake Benedict and Grand Marnier French Toast, all served with your choice of a mimosa, sparkling wine, or juice.

The Hidden Gem: The Upstairs Bar

While the main dining area shines in its elegance, the upstairs bar at Harry Browne’s is a hidden local favorite. With a more laid-back vibe than the formal dining room, it’s the perfect place to enjoy handcrafted cocktails, appetizers, or even a full meal in a cozy, relaxed atmosphere. The bar is stocked with a wide selection of spirits, local and imported beers, and an expertly curated wine list. Bartenders here are friendly, skilled, and always ready to make something special based on your tastes.

The upstairs space often has live music, especially on weekends, creating a welcoming social scene that contrasts beautifully with the formality downstairs. It’s a great spot to unwind after exploring downtown Annapolis or to catch up with friends over drinks and small plates.

Service That Shines

The service at Harry Browne’s is top-tier, whether you’re in the dining room or upstairs at the bar. Staff are attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely hospitable. They make every guest feel special—whether you’re a first-time visitor or a longtime regular.

Final Thoughts

Harry Browne’s Restaurant offers the best of both worlds: an elegant, historic dining experience downstairs and a lively, inviting bar scene upstairs. It’s a rare combination that caters to any occasion, making it a true Annapolis treasure. Whether you’re looking for fine dining, a quiet brunch, or a casual evening cocktail, Harry Browne’s is always the right choice.

This is a restaurant for an older crowd, if you’re under 55 you will feel out of place. Food is very mediocre and the staff is not attentive.

We certainly enjoyed our 51st anniversary celebration meal. At our age we eat early. I got the impression that the staff wasn’t quite ready when we arrived because they hadn’t decided where we would be seated. So, we chose the window seat. Nonetheless we were well served. The white table cloth place settings made it feel special. The wine selection actually included a wine I love! We both loved the food. Best restaurant risotto I’ve ever had.

Live the window seat! Large portions, the Penne Loster and shrimp made dinner the next night, wow!

I made a reservation but they were running late so we were sent upstairs to wait. End up ordering there because we had theater tickets and it was 20 minutes before a table downstairs open up. Not the atmosphere for fine dining more like a dirty pub but the prices were the same. Disappointing experience from what was supposed to be a fancy evening out.
Server was excellent but stretched thin as she was waiting on entire room. Beer tap was dirty and had a strange taste. Food was unexceptional.
