Laid-back outpost with an old-world ambiance preparing traditional Thai meals to eat in or take out.

We’ve had a great experience at the Krystal Thai restaurant on a cold Winter night.
We started with a delicious hot Thai tea, with delicate notes of vanilla and we ordered a sampler platter as an appetizer to share. Everything was very fresh and tasty, but the “Crab in a bag” was outstanding. It could be served as an hors d’oeuvre at a diplomatic reception.
Our dinner followed with Mussamun Curry with beef, which was very aromatic and yummy, and Stir Fried Basil with pork, also full of flavor. The spice level was just as we ordered.
The service was friendly and attentive and the decor cozy and authentic.
We’ve moved recently to Crystal Lake IL and I’m happy to have such a nice dining option close to home.
Thank you and see you soon again.

Krystal Thai just wasn’t very good. I’ve been so excited to swing by because it’s the only Thai place in the general area (Crystal Lake). My Dad and I were starving so we went for dinner. The atmosphere is nice and authentic, but the seats are pretty painful.
Our server was friendly but pretty absent. It was pretty crowded so that might have been why.
The food was lackluster. The Strawberry Milk Tea was too icy. We ordered the Chicken Satay, which were decent but had no curry taste, instead they were sour like they had too much coconut milk. They also came out after our entrees did. My Dad’s Red Curry was bland and watery, he hated it. My Rama Curry Noodles were pretty flavorful, but nothing spectacular.
I don’t think we will be back, which is sad because it’s a cute place, but the service and food sucked.

Food is good. They also have Pho on the menu which is interesting because that’s a Vietnamese noodle soup (right!?). Service was a little slow. Overall, it was an ok experience.

We had a party of 8 tonight for my brother’s birthday, and although there was a lot of us, they did a great job at accommodating everyone. The food was great, I got the crispy Chicken Pot Stickers with sesame sauce, Tom Yum Soup (or a different variation of it but similar), and a Honey Dew Melon Bubble Tea and there were all so good! I cannot even describe how good the Bubble tea was!! My sister got the Mini Banana Rolls that came with chocolate drizzle and whipped cream with sprinkles. My first time here and it was great, service was awesome

Spring pad Thai was excellent! We tried four courses and two appetizers and everything was divine. All fresh ingredients, large portions and the shrimp were large and not cheap. We offered to buy two Thai beer company mugs and they just gave them to us with shirts to match. Excellent service and nothing was neglected. We opted out of the $8.95 lunch special for larger portions but 4 beers, 4 courses and three apps was only $100 and we could not everything. We will be back

Ambiance- beautiful, very clean. Cozy ambiance
Food- I love their food. I can eat at this place all week. I love their food so much. On top they are so friendly.
Tom Yum soup with tofu is the best one in Chicagoland area.
Basil fried rice have very good flavor.
I tried Hot Chilli Garlic tofu— was good with nice spice to it. Loved it.
Serving size- is good and better to be shared or for the table.
Service- staff is very friendly. Quick service and they guide you. Always smiling staff.

Very good Thai food in this restaurant. I stopped here on a Sunday at approximately 630pm. I was very surprised to only see one other couple eating in the restaurant at this time. While I was eating, I saw a lot of carry out orders go out and only one person came in to actually sit down and eat.
I made negative logical assumptions upon walking in, seeing the empty restaurant. They proved my assumptions to be wrong. The food here was actually quite good and their prices are really reasonable for both lunch and dinner.
The Yellow Curry Chicken and Tom Yum Soup were fantastic. They will let you adjust your level of spiciness when you order so don’t worry about the food being too spicy if that is a concern.
I am not from the area, otherwise I would definitely eat here more often. A+

Finally found this gem. Moved up this way 3 years ago and occasionally tried a few other Thai restaurants with no luck. Krystal Thai not only has the correct flavors but also has the spice that you would come to expect. On top of that our server was extremely pleasant and I even caught her running to deliver a side order. I went with medium spice but possibly could have gone with hot where that is still only 3rd out of 5 levels. I highly recommend this restaurant and we will for sure be back.

The atmosphere is very relaxing and the service was excellent! I highly recommend brecommemd the Basil Duck as it was delicious The Tom Yum Soup was served authentic style, and the presentation was really neat. I wasn’t impressed with the flavor of the chicken pad Thai. I do feel they used a lot of msg, unfortunately.

I love this place really do.. and was so excited to pick up takeout for myself since having a bad week. Normally food is perfect .. today like literally 25 minutes ago.. I picked up my order … whoever is the new cook or cooking today not so great. My curry was less curry more soups aka needs to be creamier . My crab Rangoon .. we’re all undercooked and literally no cream cheese in them. Sad as this is my favorite things to order .. my Thai ice coffee mainly cream very mild .. coffee ice cream is stronger than this.
I will consider giving this another go as it has been good in past..
Having to toss the entire appetizer sucks n since when does Thai food use jalapenos? ..
