Absolutely the most disappointing dining experience I have had in a long time. I am genuinely shocked by the positive reviews for this restaurant, because my visit was far from acceptable.
The service was unprofessional, from the moment we arrived. The staff were intrusive, spoke loudly across the dining area, and handled customer concerns in a way that created an uncomfortable atmosphere for everyone.
The food quality was equally troubling. The salty lassi contained no salt whatsoever, and when I mentioned this, one waiter admitted he already knew, while the manager contradicted him directly in front of me. The mutter paneer was completely bland, lacking seasoning or authentic flavor. Several other dishes, including the mushroom starter, also had no basic seasoning. Although the Bombay aloo and garlic naan were decent, they did not justify the overpriced menu. Ruined my first night visiting Bakewell.
The atmosphere and table layout were poorly thought out, and the manager’s dismissive and unaccommodating attitude, including insisting that unused tables were “reserved,” only made the experience worse.
Overall, this restaurant fails to deliver authentic Indian cuisine or even basic hospitality. I would strongly advise others to avoid it.

Awful experience. The manager was so rude. The food was awful. The worst Indian food I have ever had. When we complained about the the lassi not being salty (instead it was sour and bland), the waiter had already guessed that there was not enough salt, but then the manager loudly said in the quiet restaurant that there is salt when there clearly was no salt. When we asked to sit at a better table the waiter said yes but the manager lied and came in saying that the tables were reserved when nobody came. All the food was awful and bland. Not accommodating at all and the restaurant was quiet while the manager loudly argued with the waiter about the levels of salt in OUR drink that we had tasted multiple times to make sure it really didn’t have salt. Left us feeling so embarrassed as the whole restaurant was listening. And the food is severely overpriced for the awful food, service ambience and treatment.
I wish I could wish this place a zero. DO NOT WASTE YOUR EVENING OVER HERE.

We’re visiting Bakewell on a celebratory trip away from the hustle and bustle of day time television…. Seriously though, this place was a relaxed Indian abode where we were made to feel at home and comfortable. Shiva our waiter was so attentive and we had a wonderful experience with him by our side throughout. This is the most tasty Indian cuisine served with a side or care and attention. Highly recommend

I choose Rajas for a meal to celebrate my 50th. Osman and the rest of the staff were great to deal with, they delivered fantastic food and service for 35 people. I highly recommend them if you’re looking for a great curry in bakewell. I’m sure we will be back soon. Thanks tom

I tried the indian food when I came in New Zealand and this was the best place with the best food. I loved the atmosphere everyone was superr friendly and the taste of food was on it’s peak level. everyone must try this food! definitely not gonna regret. thank you to the staff as well. they are very hardworking really appreciate that! thank youu✨️

Unfortunately it seems many decent Bakewell based restaurants close after lunch and do not open until 6:30/7pm. My wife and I needed to be at a show for 7:30pm so we searched for somewhere that could do a 5pm sitting and we settled on here (booked well in advance) as us Brummies love a curry. Unfortunately, us Brummies also really know our curries and whereas this wasn’t bad, it didn’t quite hit the mark. The food was very much ‘ok’, the Garlic Chilli Chicken had no hit to it at all, yet my wife’s vegetable Balti was unexpectedly spicy for her. When she requested some yoghurt she got a look like she had personally insulted the waiter. On that point the service was mixed. The gentleman who greeted us was most put out (as we entered the empty restaurant as it only opened 30 minutes prior) that our advance booking of 2 people had now changed to ‘maybe 3’, and that the third person would only be popping in for a quick drink with us as we ate our meals as he was performing at the Town Hall (the show we were were attending). As we ate several members of staff / owners looked on from an awkward distance, which wasn’t great. We did not finish much of our food and whilst waiting for the bill, we continued to chat between us while we finished our drinks. A gentlemen (perhaps the owner) then came over and asked us to move off the table (before we had paid) as it was needed for others (the place was half empty at this point) and we were instructed to sit with those picking up takeaways. It was all just a bit insensitive and blunt and we shall not return. Not terrible, but just a bit meh.

Stayed at Bakewell for the weekend and thought we would try this place out….id read the mixed reviews & it very nearly put me off but I thought no… let’s make our own mind up. So glad we did! Best Indian meal we’ve had in a long time! We shared onion bhajis (stunning and really creamy) my husband had fish masala and I had garlic mushrooms…wow best thing Iv tasted in ages. I had the lamb tikka masala & my husband had the sizzling meat platter.we shared chips & a garlic naan.
Everything was amazing & the staff couldn’t do enough for you. Next time we’re in Bakewell we will definitely be returning. just a shame they don’t do delivery to Sheffield! 🙂
