The vibe is what you make it. You could be here for a game, a first date, to snag a filet to go or tuck into a corner in sweats and ponder life over a beautiful glass of chardonnay.

Food quality quickly won us over. The oysters were fresh and beautifully presented. The Peruvian ceviche disappeared fast, though we didn’t expect it to lean so guacamole-heavy with fish mixed in. The standout dish for me was the Fisherman’s Basket; lightly fried, super tender and dairy free. A rare win.

Service started strong but lost momentum after our order was taken. We had to flag someone down for fresh plates and extra condiments and didn’t get a chance to order a second drink until the meal was already wrapping up. It was a special occasion that lost its spark. More attention would’ve made a big difference.

This is always a good place to stop by. They have fresh fish and seafood and offer a good variety of dishes, from fried oysters and fish and chips to nice spicy Peruvian ceviche. Plenty of seating outside which makes it perfect for kids and dogs. If you enjoy the food you can buy fresh seafood to cook it at home. Ample street parking nearby.

It wasn’t all a ten because my entree was a little too salty. But the seafood is definitely fresh!

Highly recommend the shrimp ceviche especially during happy hour prices!

For a fish market, it doesn’t smell! Love that there’s a spot for take home raw and then you can also dine there!

I don’t know how this place is not more popular. This is my go-to when people ask for sleeper-picks / hole in the wall spots in LA.

I’m quite certain Tangaroa is generally well-respected / received as an establishment by critics & locals but it deserves more heat in the cultural zeitgeist.

Where else can you get a fried fish tacos done so perfectly in LA proper? I genuinely have no idea.

As an aside, It’s strange that simple ocean-fare done right is not more common in LA, but I guess it doesn’t need to be when you have Tangaroa in your backyard.

The shrimp & chips is a 10. Poke is perfect. The burger here is also weirdly one of my favorites. I used to drive down to San Diego once a quarter just for fried shrimp tacos or a California burrito from a local spot. Not anymore. I spend my gas money here now.

I wish I were on a first name basis with the owner- can we get a loyalty program going? Or maybe a referral / affiliate thing .. I’ve lost count of how many people I’ve sent here.

Thanks for your service

Friendly staff and amazing seafood. We came as a party of 5 last minute and took over the large patio table outside. It was an amazing afternoon and we had such a great time. Great wine section, and the menu had good sharing options. Loved it!

Well-known spot for seafood, especially grilled fish, which is what initially drew me in. I decided to visit after hearing a lot about their reputation in the area. I ordered the grilled salmon, fish tacos, and clam chowder. The grilled salmon had a nice smoky flavor and was cooked well, while the fish tacos were decent but could have used more seasoning. The clam chowder was creamy and comforting, though not particularly memorable. The portions were fair for the price, and the restaurant had a casual, relaxed atmosphere. Service was friendly but a bit slow during peak hours. Overall, the food quality was good, especially the grilled items, but there’s still room for improvement in consistency and presentation. It’s a solid option for seafood lovers, though not entirely outstanding.

Friendly service and decent food at this New Zealand fish restaurant in the Culver City area. In search of fish and chips, we found Tangaroa and were instantly greeted and seated inside. The ambiance was cozy, and the friendly server made us feel welcome. We ordered the fish and chips, along with fish tacos. While the fish tacos were tasty, the fish and chips were decent but slightly undercooked on one piece of fish. Despite that minor hiccup, we enjoyed our time at Tangaroa and appreciated the warm New Zealand hospitality.

Great place! Fish taco was solid. The crab cake salad was a bit salty. But I’d definitely come back!
