I came to this bar on Super Bowl Sunday and the crowd was amazing; my best friend and I both had a stellar time and met plenty of cool, fun people who made the atmosphere very energetic and welcoming. There were intense games of pool and ping pong going on, and I met someone who plans to teach me pool myself! Service was good, double shots were generous, and the many televisions made following the big game easy. I did not try the food, but it’s a 12/10 bar, and I will be back!

One of my favorite dive bars! Good selection of beer. Friendly staff. Very diverse crowd depending on the day and time. Can get very crowded at night on the weekends. Quiet during the afternoon. Free Pizza on Mondays and on Tuesday Free Cony Dogs for all! You can’t beat it! Happy hour is a joy!

Admittedly I have a picky pallet but I do give restaurants, cafe and bars a fair try. I ordered The platter which were rib tips but when I got it it reminded me of short ribs. It came with garlic sliced bread, cole slaw and I chose mac and cheese as my side. The ribs while saucy was super fatty and I just wasn’t a fan. The mac and cheese was ok but lacked salt and pepper and I couldn’t finish it. The garlic bread was good! I ordered hot wings but they weren’t spicy. I appreciate the blue cheese celery. A note, the blue cheese should be thicker! I ordered delivery service and the staff did a great job supplying plenty of napkins and some plasticware. If you’re in the mood to try something new, give them a try.

I’ve been coming to High Beck Tavern for years because of the welcoming atmosphere and how great Tommy and his team has always been with his customers. Unfortunately, my last visit was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had there, all because of the bartender, Matt.
While the patio was full of guests, he decided to use a leaf blower to clear it off — blowing dust, dirt, and debris all over people’s drinks and faces. When guests tried to express frustration, he was loud, rude, and downright aggressive in how he spoke to people. The behavior was completely unprofessional and created an uncomfortable, hostile environment.
It’s really disappointing to see someone represent such a great establishment this way. I hope Tommy becomes aware of how poorly this bartender treats customers because it’s driving away long-time regulars like myself.

Right across the street from classics, if you are looking for a smaller bar without nearly as much lighting, and you wish to play ping pong or pool with gold competition then this is the bar for you. The High Beck Tavern is a real neighborhood dive bar. It reminds me of the places that were in the OSU campus area before gentrification. As I have said, we enjoy exploring dive bars and visiting the High Beck is always popular. The pizza is delicious, and you can build your own. The BBQ is super, but not out of this world. The BBQ includes both brisket and pulled pork. The BBQ is not cooked with a great deal of seasoning, but there are several sauces for you to try. There are subs, burgers, and chili dogs. We love the BBQ and pizza, which is mostly what we go for.
The High Beck is a real dive establishment. Ordering is done at the bar. The prices are low, and the beer is cold. The High Beck is ideal if you are going out with a crew. Everyone will find something to munch on, and no one will mind if you become a little rowdy. Parking is at meters along High Street. So, if you become bored with the Short North, make a trip down High Street with your pals to the High Beck in German Village.
