Never been to Bolton Landing. Decided to stop by for some pizza and it didn’t disappoint. They were THAT close to a 5 star. The welcoming was absolutely remarkable. Location perfect and food was good. I definitely would recommend. Their tomato sauce is delicious. Would I go back? ABSOLUTELY!

Dear Cates management, it’s time for you to take a good look at your recent reviews and stop resting on your laurels of “30 years of happy customers”. Three of us had a late lunch on Sunday Oct 21 2025 at 4PM, and none of us enjoyed our meals. The food was mediocre at best. The worst part is the $14 Italian salad that was a small plate of spring mix with some tomatoes and onions. This salad was worth $6 at best, and when I brought this to the attention of the waitress I was told “that’s what it is”. No offer to bring a manager, no offer to take a portion of the cost off of the bill. I’ll obviously never return to Cates, and I hope this review serves as a warning to anyone else considering dining there. Obviously the management won’t care, but hopefully I’ll save someone from a bad experience like the one we had.

Horrible service by Sharon (yes, called out by name because she called us a liar and well honestly, she gave really bad service and still was upset that we didn’t give her a tip). Horrible manager. I asked after waiting too long for the wrong meal where our food was. She said the waitress (Sharon) was thoughtful of people eating their appetizers (we ordered garlic bread to go with our meal). At the end after we got the bill she came over and asked us what our issue was with the bill. I told her that our food was really late and we didn’t even get what we ordered. She said, “well you sent it back” which wasn’t true. It would just have been nice to not have been called a liar and done a little with the bill. Everything is expensive and we don’t go out much. Plus Sharon came running after us because she said we didn’t leave enough. She said we were short a dime on a 75$ bill. Pretty sure she dropped the dime more than once. Ridiculous night. Anyway, tell Sharon we said hi if you decide to go. She was pretty upset not getting a tip after all that drama. Go figure.

I am so sad- Cate’s used to be my go restaurant when visiting lake George, and it has very much gone downhill. My espresso martini was room temperature with no espresso beans in it. The bread that we were served was so hard that it was actually inedible. My fiance had chicken tetrazzini- which looked awful on a very small plate and tasted just as bad. I was excited for the osobuco, but was sadly disappointed. Cold broccolini, even colder risotto- that has zero taste and was so clumped together that it was crunchy. The osobuco itself tasted like it had been reheated more than once. End of an era for this couple! We sadly won’t ever come back or recommend this to anyone again.

I would not rec that restaurant.Extremely slow service,we waited like an hour for our appetizer and the place wasn’t even full,it was rediculous.The pizza was not nice.The garlic bread I would not recommend either.The chicken Marsala was OK,the beans on the side were cold.The staff-poor service,slow,slow.The atmosphere-so so.Parking-dependent on the season-if you are lucky you would find a spot close to the restaurant.

We arrived at 4:01. Party of two, first customers of the evening. It took over an hour to get our food. It seemed as though the larger tables received all of the servers’ attention. When we got our food, it took about 10 minutes to flag down someone to ask them for some red sauce. The place smelled extremely musty. The decor was bizarre. Wish I had taken a photo of the strange picture that was hanging by my husband. It was of a chef that looked deranged. And on the very next wall there was the exact same creepy picture! The tossed salads we got were simply some mixed greens with a couple of cherry tomatoes and sliced canned black olives tossed in a very astringent and tart balsamic vinaigrette and they cost $13 each. My gluten free pasta was cooked well. Not mushy. But was quite blah tasting (which is why I was wanting the side of red sauce) My husband reported that the chicken Masala was good. Disappointed that they didn’t have gluten free bread available. My his brother reported the bread that he had was chewy and had possibly been microwaved. Took quite a while to get our to go boxes and check. They charged an almost 7% fee to use a credit card! When we asked another server where the notice of this charge is, she apologetically informed us it was on the menu. I am sure that we are not the only hungry, weary travelers who missed that little tidbit of information. Fortunately, we were able to have the credit card charged removed and were able to pay for our meal in cash which saved us $7. Overall a very disappointing first meal on our vacation in Bolton Landing.

Service was awesome! The chicken was like a cylinder block on all 4 of our dishes. The raviolis were either microwaved or fried. They had brown edges and one was bubbly. They were hockey pucks! Filipe the waiter was great! We used to love coming, been there many times! However, sadly we will not be back!

We have been coming to Cate’s for 25 years when we are in the Lake George area. The food us always good and we love the pizza. The wine list is well thought out and there is a bottle to satisfy every price point. It is worth the wait if you didn’t have a reservation. One thing, while the wait staff is friendly, the young woman we spoke to on the phone was a little rude and abrupt. Once you get past that. Bon appeit!! And enjoy the food and wine!!!

Family of 3 went on Sunday 8.31 for birthday dinner celebration. Our server, Sharon was not friendly. As if we were inconveniencing her by being there. She could not properly explain or read us the specials. We ordered. As we were waiting a few minutes after ordering, we noticed that the 3 plates on the table were dirty. Not like a spot on it dirty but used and not cleaned dirty, greasy. We ended up leaving within a few minutes, as this made us question what was in the kitchen if this is what was out in the open. We felt terrible to leave but did not want to get sick. My son also found food on the side of his chair. Just not clean. We read reviews afterwards and feel like we really dodged a bullet here.
