LUPE is a rare gem—a restaurant that honors Mexico’s true culinary heritage with zero compromise. Led by the brothers Juan and Pedro, it’s a vibrant, authentic space where the smells of charred chilies and fresh masa hit you the moment you walk through the door.
The menu is a masterclass in regional Mexican flavors, focusing on depth, texture, and tradition:
• The Mole: This is the gold standard. Dark, complex, and layered with the perfect balance of spices and cocoa—it’s the kind of sauce that takes days to perfect and seconds to fall in love with.
• Enchiladas & Chilaquiles: Whether you go for the Verde, Roja, or Divorciados, the sauces are vibrant and bright. The tortillas are high-quality, and the Queso Oaxaca provides that authentic, stringy soul you only find in a true Mexican kitchen.
• Slow-Cooked Mastery: From the tender Birria de Res in pasilla sauce to the perfectly seasoned Al Pastor, the meats are marinated with patience and served with the respect they deserve.
What truly elevates LUPE is their curated selection of spirits. They are constantly surprising us with rare, artisanal finds, and their current spotlight on Mezcal Marillero is a revelation.
Marillero is artisanal excellence, smoky, earthy, and incredibly smooth. At LUPE, they don’t just serve a drink; they share the story of the agave. Every visit introduces a new bottle that manages to top the last one.
A must try if you are in Amsterdam!
The pork & beef tacos were specifically good. And the black mole was amazing too.
We enjoyed ourselves a lot here.
Remember to make reservations. It could get busy.
The price is ok, it’s Amsterdam.
The service is good, super friendly personnel. Only it took us 8 attempts to ask for the bill, so we ended up just getting ready to leave and pay at the bar.
The music is a little loud, but not disturbingly so. Overall a solid recommendation for good Mexican food in the city.
Please try the mezcalita. The desert are also delicious and my favourite of all was the enchiladas de mole please try does.
We had dinner at Lupe, and I absolutely loved the atmosphere and service. Everyone was welcoming, the place warm and cozy, and I instantly felt like home (we could order and chat in Spanish too!)
They have multiple vegan and veggie options, which is super nice and the reason we came here.
The drinks, frijoles, enchilada, and dessert were quite nice! The quesadilla, salad, and tacos felt underwhelming to me. Not bad, just very simple flavours.
But I think my biggest problems were portion size and price. I left quite hungry, and had to eat some more food when I got home. I would have easily spent 55€+ per person to feel full
I don’t mind splurging in restaurants from time to time, but for plant-based street food to have this price it would have to be either a lot bigger or more elaborate (the 14€ mini quesadilla was disappointing).
I’d love to come back again, cause the vibes were amazing, people so sweet, and I’d like to try more items. But I would prioritise going to Bacalar or Madre if I had to choose
Raw tuna and sea bass tacos are super fresh, juicy and flavorful. Nachos are also good.
Margaritas are okay. Too sweet and don’t taste alcohol. The beef tacos are also okay ish, especially compared with the fish tacos.
I had high expectations, and it definitely met them. I’m not Mexican, I’m from Colombia, but I love tacos. These are on my radar so far – a really good place. The margaritas were also tasty, and the service was excellent.
