We met up with friends at Matilda’s to watch a basketball game. We just got drinks but our friends got food. The bar area was nice but the TVs were small or the big tv was blurry. We had a good time hanging out and the drinks were good. The food looked good. We will have to go back and have dinner there.

I stumbled upon this gem – trying to make my way to sapori trattoria (they closed at 9 so I was late again) it was rainy and I was hungry so I stopped into Matilda – immediately good vibes, so I sat and stayed.
After ordering 2 meals and a drink – I realized I left my wallet at home and freaked out – my bartender was not only understanding but made me realize its ok to be human –
Chicken thigh entree and Korean BBQ chicken sandwich for the win – i ordered both and took leftovers home!
Best Brussels sprouts i have had in this city – ever!
I couldn’t believe how cheap my bill was, too – specials during the week.
I hear they have trolley busses for an upcoming neighborhood pub crawl starting this Friday, too – you should be there but tip your bartenders – i do!
Thanks guys – it had been a day and I needed the grace and good service.

Went for taco Tuesday and had the delicious fish, shrimp, beef and fried chicken taco.
Our waiter was kind and knew everything about the draft beers.

Food was great, wine was delicious, and kitchen was very accommodating for our dietary restrictions. Our server Orlando was amazing! Will definitely be returning.

I needed a place to just unwind and have a drink & some food after being at the hospital around the corner for 12+ hours waiting for a loved one to get out of cancer surgery. They were busy, fine. I waited at the door not sure if you seat yourself or what, bartenders clearly saw me standing there, fine. Walked to the bar and asked if it was seat yourself and was told there were more seats in back (even though there were seats where she was at), fine. Go to back bar, tables were packed, but I was only one at the bar. Three bartenders passed me getting bottles for the front bar, glasses etc. Not a nod, not the obligatory cocktail-napkin-I—see-you-I’ll-be-back, nothing. So I look for a menu, keep trying to make eye contact. I mean the female bartender up front told me to go back there. Nothing. After 30mins I gave up, and left. I’m from out of town, had a traumatic day at the hospital and just needed some Chicago hospitality, but this place could not be bothered. Luckily Lakeview has plenty of more welcoming places for me to end my night. Super disappointing especially considering their proximity to that hospital.
(In response, it was Tuesday the 17th. )

Where has this place been ? I found myself
In the hood a few weeks back, stopped in, and it was so great I had to go back .now I’m
Just trying tfind a time to
Go back ! We got tons of food – Brussels sprouts were a hit – (I know Brussels sprouts right? Just trust me ) and the pizzas hit that sweet spot u want when u having beers with friends . Not one thing was even mediocre . The vibe is definitely one that my wife and I typically gravitate toward … casual laid back and inviting . The staff in my experience was top notch . Some of the best in the city . Taylor and Erica (I could be wrong) kept the drinks flowing and became friends by the time we left . Great food . Great vibe. Incredible people and I can’t wait to go back .

Out of towner here. I’m visiting Chicago and wanted to take my wife to dinner here for her birthday celebration & I had the utmost deeply disturbing interaction over the phone with a young lady who was extremely rude! We were looking to eat at the Matilda & go to the Clandestino afterwards since we seen they were both connected. I couldn’t find a phone number for Clandestino. All in all, I ended up calling the wrong location (Lake view east), silly me! I then asked this young lady if she happened to know if the Clandestino had a phone number to call and instead of saying “no I don’t, sorry”, she said “how would I know that” very rudely and hung up the phone. My wife & myself didn’t even make it inside the restaurant to enjoy the meal because we were so turned off by this interaction. This lady was working @ 7pm December 12th. I truly hope this is not the standard at Matilda in LAKE VIEW EAST. If she could speak to me & my wife like that, I can’t imagine who else she speaks too like this. This was truly bothering and uncalled for. Especially for someone who’s been looking eat at this restaurant for a year.
This is in response to Matilda’s response “make sure you have the right restaurant before leaving a one star review”. Instead of taking responsibility for how YOUR host talk to people on the phone, you are choosing to deflect this situation and discredit it. Let’s make this clear. This is about how your employee chose to respond and be rude over the phone. I asked a simple question, and she could have said she doesn’t have this information. But she didn’t. Instead she was rude. I’m sure she didn’t think such a small interaction would be me leaving this nasty of a review. This was the Lake View East location in which I had this phone call. Not River north. Please do better & stop deflecting. I encourage YOU all to treat people with respect & understand you are a public restaurant.

Real nice place. Especially if you’re a Michigan Alum. It’s the Michigan Alumni bar! I’m a Spartan, and still give this a 5 star, GO Green! It’s cool spot and ambiance and nice outdoor seating with good food!
