We just dined at Bhuna for the first time and had a wonderful experience. The food was delicious and flavorful and fresh but the service sold us. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a great conversation with Deepak, the owner. If we weren’t out of towners he would have made some new regulars out of us. I ordered the Pork Skewer during happy hour and it was tender and rich and so well balanced with its accompaniments. The curry bowl was beautiful and very filling. The meat portions were generous. If you’re in PDX and haven’t visited before, take a chance on this place. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.

What a hidden gem! We enjoyed a fantastic evening here last week. Everything we ordered was very tasty. The portion sizes are perfect for sharing a variety of diverse dishes. The service was exceptional – food and drinks delivered quickly, attentive, good humored. Ambience is lovely – spacious layout and big beautiful windows. Highly recommend this experience, especially if you appreciate a great Indian-inspired menu clearly crafted with heart. We will definitely go back!

New favorite Indian option in Portland and really novel takes on classic dishes. The thali plate for two is a great place to start, and solid vegetarian selections make it easy to make everyone happy. Cocktails are also unique takes on classics, the mule with tumeric was outstanding. Only regret was not showing up with more people to try more dishes. On top of all that, the prices made it a great value as a bonus.

This place oozes ambiance, subtlety, and perfect flavors. No thick sauces here, just perfectly dressed dishes and balanced flavors.

I’m no food reviewer, but I’ll wax poetic about my experience here. Calamari w/ a chutney base, a balanced salad, a lamb burger, & palak paneer w/ naan….the perfect meal shared between two.

Two great cocktails (this coming from an IPA guy 😉 this place is well worth visiting. There is always parking around; just walk a block or two & limber up for a feast. Make the stroll; it’s more that worth it!

Deepak is also an awesomely charismatic owner & wonderful human being.

Cheers,

Dr. E. & L.

We wandered into this restaurant on a whim, and we were so pleasantly surprised! I’m a very picky eater, but Maggie took such great care of our group and made great recommendations. She even customized a cocktail for me. I have never had Indian food before but I liked everything I tried!!!! The brussel sprouts, pakoras, and chicken skewers were my favorites!!! The place is cute and clean, and they played great music. It was a fun and chill atmosphere. Happy hour deals were good, and overall pricing was reasonable. I’ll definitely be back!

I am a sucker for Indian food, and this was perfect. I tried some new things, and loved (or at least liked) all of it. My girlfriend and I got the vegetable pakoras as an appetizer and they were wonderfully crunchy. Then we got the (vegetarian) Thali for 2, which was perfect. I loved getting to try a little bit of everything.

We also got a masala lemonade which I loved. She got a, but she doesn’t like rum and so she didn’t enjoy it that much. But the spice on the rim was good!

The server was friendly, funny, and super helpful! He described what we got on our Thali for 2 plate and answered questions I had about some of the food I was unfamiliar with. The interior is minimalist and spacious, although the 2-person tables are a little small.

I don’t know how there isn’t a line of persons outside this restaurant waiting to have the privilege of eating here.
With the first bite of the Chettinad Chicken, my emotional state was transported to. . . I don’t even know where -maybe in the crisp air of the Himalayas somewhere. I’ve never been, but for some reason, now I think I need to go.
The spices were a symphony; subtle, calibrated perfection. Nothing was off, nothing was exaggerated. I think it was the best I’ve ever enjoyed.
When I entered, the owner greeted me efficiently at the door with a menu. Crisp, efficient. No wait and dance with a slovenly dressed and annoyed failed barista to be seated.
The menu is tight. Not too many dishes to choose from, so I was able to make a choice quickly and the same owner took my order , cooked and prepared my plates and had it on my table in maybe four minutes.
From entering the place to mouth happiness in five minutes – brilliant!
I’ll be back.

I had the most amazing dinner here for the first night of the inaugural Indian Food Week! The chef/owner Deepak welcomed us into the space, explained the food, answered our questions, and took such good care of us. Everything we ate was amazing, so well-spiced and unique. My faves from the night were the dum aloo (braised potatoes), Kashmiri tomato and eggplant, and the mango kulfi with pistachios. I’m already planning my return trip and telling my friends about this place so they can visit too. I can’t believe how many times I’ve walked past this gem and missed out on a delicious meal. Do yourself a favor and check them out, you won’t regret it.

If you don’t eat here, I think you are making mistake. This place is awesome! I have always wanted to try and have heard such great things about it and literally cannot express how much I loved the food the atmosphere the staff and everything else that there is to love about dining out. My food was fantastic. The chef was so genuine and literally could not have been more gracious and more funny. I will definitely be making a return and if you don’t come here, you are making a huge mistake toodles XOXO.

Visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening for dinner. At first glance, the menu made it clear this wasn’t a typical Indian restaurant. We decided to try the thali, thinking it would give us a chance to sample multiple curries.

At $60, we assumed we were getting two individual thalis—one per person. To our surprise, it turned out to be a single plate meant to be shared between two. That was definitely disappointing, especially since we arrived hungry and expected a more substantial meal for that price. For context, most Indian restaurants typically serve a thali per person in the $12–15 range.

The food itself was just okay. A couple of the curries were decent, while others didn’t quite hit the mark. That said, we still finished everything simply because we were starving.

One positive was our host—Deepak, I believe—who was friendly and had a great sense of humor. I genuinely appreciated his service, though I regret not leaving a bigger tip because I left feeling like the value for money just wasn’t there.

The ambiance was average, nothing special, and parking was a real hassle. Street parking was tough to find.
