Mesquite Fresh Street Mex

  4.3 – 585 reviews   • Mexican restaurant

Social Profile:

Born in Old Town Scottsdale in 2015, Mesquite set out to serve bold, fire-grilled Mexican street food that hits different. Cooking fresh meats over real mesquite wood, the flavors took people straight to the streets of Rocky Point, Mexico. When lines wrapped around the block and guests came back day after day, it was clear this wasn’t just a taqueria, it was the start of something big.

I was able to catch the Taco Tuesday special, I got to admit that for nine bucks it’s a heck of a lot of food! Three tacos plus rice and beans. That being said, the food was pretty good. Not amazing but the service was very friendly and helpful and the restaurant is kept super clean and is very modern.

The burrito was very good. The mesquite flavor was on the spot. Our food was to-go, but the dining atmosphere seemed decent enough. The one person that I had interaction with was kind and pleasant. Unfortunately, our request to have the burrito cut in half was ignored. Fortunately, I carry a knife, so it all worked out.

Let me start off by saying I love mesquite and will probably keep going back. They have some items that I thought were the normal items just on sale. My go to is a steak burrito with all the fixings. So I ordered this killer burrito online just like I like it. When I went to pick it up. The cashier handed me the bag and I thought she had made an error. It was so light it felt like there way maybe 3 sauces total in the bag. I said mam I think I got the wrong order I ordered the burrito, she said no its correct you ordered the “street size” killer burrito. I was confused so I took it out of the bag I thought I was getting punked or something. The burrito was comically small. I dont know they got all my toppings in there. I had to order myself more food because this burrito wouldn’t fill up a toddler. This burrito needs to be either bigger, price cut in half, or advertised properly so the consumer knows exactly what they are getting. With tax this burrito ran me around $10 for that price the burrito should be full size. The normal sized burrito here starts at around $11 something and its 4 times the size. I normal dont give bad reviews because we all make mistakes but this is what they are currently serving customers and its not right. In this economy to sell this excuse of a burrito for that price is Ludacris. Here is a photo of the receipt and one compared to a regular street taco. They are roughly the same size.

Somehow my Breakfast Burrito ended up being $14.17, solid burrito but I guess every option you add to the burrito is another charge. No eggs either… was it even a Breakfast Burrito? Weird vibe. Cashier told me the price and then disappeared. Used Apple Pay and walked away without a receipt. Will I be back? Sadly… no. I wanted this to be a better experience.

Friendly staff & clean restaurant. But the food was just mediocre. Really no flavor. Probably won’t go back.

I’ve been coming here for almost 4 years. Ann is fantastic. I think the quality of ingredients far surpasses Chipotle. My favorite item is the chorizo breakfast taco. If you’ve got errands to run on a Saturday, pop over here, enjoy their updated outdoor seating that is inviting and pleasant!

10/26/22: We’re back. This time with a smaller group. My burrito was perfect. Half and half meats with such great service. I really do wish I could eat here everyday.

10/8/22: my brother got me a chicken burrito and delicious even after being in the bag for 20 minutes.

7/10/22: So sorry! I completely forgot to photograph my burrito. It was filled to the rim with delicious steak and chicken. If you’re comparing this place to Chipolte, let’s just say nothing can compare. The flavor and seasons are amazing with the perfectly cooked ingredients and high quality care you want to see in a place like this. I was blessed to bring my church who all gave it raving reviews. The environment was very cheery and workers so nice. Don’t miss out on this gem!

Taste of the food was good. Portions are limited, my bowl looked like leftovers the way it was served hardly any rice meat serving was ok. Chipotle has a great serving ratio and with a sense of satisfaction in every bite worth every dime.

Great Steak Street Tacos, very generous with the meat, I only do Onion and Cilantro so can’t speak to the salsa. Horchata is good too. Definitely recommend.

Update: Been here at least 10 times since review, very consistent and tried the rice and beans today, really good!

We ordered take out on a Saturday evening, surprisingly it was dead not busy at all. Their restaurant sign is turned off which makes it look like they are closed.
Food: We ordered chicken quesadilla, chicken burrito with toppings. Guac, salsa and chips.
Drinks: Lemonade Aqua Fresca & Jamaica Aqua Fresca. ( so good! )
My burrito wasn’t wrapped well everything fell out and it was big mess. It tasted like most of the burrito was just salsa ( very spicy )
I did find a rubber yellowish piece of something in my burrito not sure what it was but while I was chewing I just could not chew through it and that’s when I realized it wasn’t part of the burrito.
The guac was more like a purée, it almost tasted like it was from the store. It did not taste authentic at all. Salas were ok again, did not taste authentic.
My husband had the chicken quesadilla, chicken was dry for him. It had a weird after taste.
We don’t know if we would come back to be honest, it will probably be a pass for us in the future. But we wish them best of luck in improving!
