Sushi was on point, tasted fresh, and the presentation was lovely. A group of excellent suggestions by sushi chef Taylor.
The seared Toro by sushi chef Roby was excellent! All the right flavors and the right temp.
The seared salmon roe by sushi chef Paul was a delight, great flavors and temp.
The hot Sake and Sapporo were also good, and the staff was friendly and very helpful.
The sushi chefs gave excellent recommendations on what was freshest and tasty.

If you want great sushi in Oklahoma, go here!

The lobster rolls was incredible and well prices but next time I have to remember to hold the cucumbers and always ask for extra sauce. It’s so much better when it’s messy!

The Living Water roll was almost a religious experience. Literally threw my hands in the air and possibly fist-bumped God. I’ve had sushi all over the US for over a decade and this roll did me in. My sister had the same reaction and she is even more picky when it comes to sushi. I never knew I needed jalapeño on my sushi roll. TRY IT!!! We dis ask for the crab salad on the side, which is good because the crab salad is hit and miss on the fishiness.

The Philadelphia roll was also good.

The presentation was beautiful with a pretty flower to match the sushi roll colors. We found out they were edible and ate the flowers, too. Tasted as you’d expect a flower would. They say you are what you eat

Also, we went during a week day around 1500, so only two other parties were there and it was perfect. Quiet and peaceful. If you like vibrant energy, go in the evenings and it’s always busy.

Excellent Poke and the octopus salad. When the Poke bowl came I added my octopus salad to it…even tastier. The Poke was half/half tuna & salmon. Highly recommend any time…yum. My waiter Dillon was very courageous and helpful.

BLUF/SUMMARY: Overall average sushi joint serving up options (like Uni and Omikase) not traditionally available in other Tulsa/local spots. Unfortunately hampered by inconsistencies in fish, rice, and prep quality as well as lack of consistent availability of certain items.

DETAILS: We went on a Saturday night with some close friends. Being a sushi lover myself, as you now know, I was excited to try this place. The Uni and Omikase availability drew me in.

Upon seating and drink orders, I was disappointed that Sapporo or Kirin was not available on tap… bottles it then was. More disappointing was our waiter’s recommendation to not do the Omikase due to “fish only arriving 2x a week on Monday and Thursday” so things wouldn’t be as fresh. Why they weren’t prepared for a Saturday night was beyond me and shows a bit of lack of planning and prep. They were also apparently out of bluefin and another fish I don’t recall. At least the waiter was honest… still, disturbing to say the least.

Thus I ordered a couple of basic rolls to go alongside a handful of nigiri’s, including an Uni (sea urchin) piece that I later found out was $10/piece. Verdict overall on the sushi: decent quality and taste for majority of my order (see attached pic for reference). Main issues were the Uni piece which was a tad discolored and definitely did not taste as fresh as it should. The rice was also disappointing – on the bland side (vinegar to sugar ratio was off) and very sloppy on presentation. Innards of my masago nigiri and rolls were falling out. It just showed a lack of care in prep, a lack of attention to detail with a higher importance put on speed.

I’ve been eating sushi since I was 3… so over 40 years later and eating sushi around the world, I admit my standards are a bit high. Akira unfortunately falls into that “been there done that” category that makes it a bit forgettable. To improve, especially if they are charging at that higher price point compared to other local sushi spots, they need to address consistency, availability, and quality with much better attention to detail.

First time, taking my wife and daughter, (who unfortunately don’t like sushi.) But I do! These guys have so much more than just a sushi bar, on the menu. Steak soba was great, as was the salmon. And of course the Crazy Tom? sushi was fabulous. Service was excellent as well. Haylie was so sweet to us! No issues whatsoever. We’ll be back!

The presentation was amazing! The food was all very good! The only thing I will say is it’s a little odd that the mango fried ice cream cake with chocolate syrup.. not gross just odd, it didn’t taste bad and I get it’s for presentation but might I suggest strawberry or coconut? Anyways everything was very high quality and the service was great! We will be back!
