OUR HISTORY First built as a single-family home in 1942, it remained as such until 1965 when Richard and Virginia Corder opened The Besta-Wan Pizza House in this quaint single-story home. The restaurant operated with a simple menu of pizza, salads and beer for over 50 years. In 2004 Rebecca & Julio Sanchez were passed the torch and spent long hours and days in the beginning transforming Besta into something that was a bit brighter, a bit funkier and something that continued to give the locals of North Co…
In addition to pizza, this laid-back eatery offers pasta, burgers & beers on tap.

(Updated — Still Just as Good)
Back in San Diego and made this my first stop—happy to say it’s still just as good.
The energy, the crowd, and the neighborhood vibe are exactly what make this place special. It truly feels like a local gathering spot—their own version of Cheers—where you instantly feel at home.
The food and drinks continue to deliver, but the real standout remains the service. Coming from the hospitality industry, I can confidently say this team knows how to create a consistently great experience. Francis, in particular, brings passion, wit, and genuine warmth that makes every visit memorable.
Places like this are rare. Grateful to have a spot I can return to again and again.
Besta Wan Pizza is truly a local legend that continues to evolve and thrive.
It has such a fantastic, fun vibe—thanks in large part to longtime employees like Megan. The quality of the meals and the fair pricing make it no surprise that this place is a favorite among locals.
One of my favorite times to visit is on a Sunday morning, enjoying a mimosa and a big, delicious breakfast burrito. Surrounded by families, friends, and even pets, it’s an awesome way to wrap up the weekend.
I highly recommend this spot if you’re in the area—you won’t be disappointed!
Our server Megan was an absolute delight, super helpful, humorous, and attentive. I think the other girl we interacted with was Sarah? – so down to earth & easy to laugh with.
The entire experience could not have been any better. Really grateful for this local landmark, protect it at all costs!
The food? Absolutely amazing. Every bite reminds me why this place has been a neighborhood gem for so long. It’s the kind of spot that feels like home—inviting, comforting, and just the perfect place to treat yourself. Whether I’m taking friends out or stopping by for a solo meal, it never disappoints.
Bestawan Pizza House is more than just a restaurant; it’s a staple in the community. Whenever I’m craving something delicious or just want to enjoy that neighborhood vibe, this is the place I go. I can’t recommend it enough—it truly sets everything into motion for a perfect meal and a great experience.
Service- our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Checked on us several times.
Food- 4 stars- we shared a large chopped salad filled with cheese, onions, chickpeas, salami and greens. We also had a large pepperoni and pepercinos. Thin crust and it was very good!! I would definitely recommend and hope to visit again.
It breaks my heart to write this, but I truly hope it helps the restaurant. I don’t know what’s changed at Besta Wan, but the food just isn’t what it used to be. We’ve been loyal customers for over 20 years, and the last few visits have felt… different. The remodel looks fantastic, but unfortunately the upgrades don’t make up for the shift in food quality. Their pizza used to be the best around, and now it just doesn’t have that same magic. I genuinely hope things improve because this place has meant a lot to our family for a long time.

Don’t order the Detroit pizza. They ask you to order online. I thought I was ordering a large pizza split and it was tiny. Ridiculously tiny and ridiculously expensive. I was shocked and appalled. They should be more transparent on their website. I’m very upset. They should have given me my money back
Staff is great, the food is very good, and the faces are familiar… it’s really like home.
