In November of 1998, we started out as small Cafe & Roastery in Montpelier, VT. Since then, we have grown into the local hub at 27 State St; offering breakfast and lunch all day, a number of home baked goods and locally sourced foods. Our roastery rebranded to 802 Coffee in 2017 and moved to Barre, VT – where we still small-batch, fresh roast coffee from the heart of Vermont. We hope you come visit!
Select house-brewed coffee, craft draft beer & creative sandwiches served in snug, warm surrounds.

This is a great local spot to relax, enjoy the vibe, and have a drink, sandwich, baked goods, or a smoothie. It features a spacious seating area. I enjoyed the Frizzy Lemonade with maple syrup while sitting in a comfortable lounge chair and working on my computer as I waited for my room to be ready. There are also nice areas nearby for shopping and dining.

Best coffee in town! We love getting the breakfast burrito. I also have had their bagels and it’s so good! You can’t go wrong with their food options.
The line to order can get long at times, especially at peak times. But the food come out in a timely manner.

Came in on a rainy Sunday and it was nicely warm, not too busy, and service was prompt. My tea was super hot, and my Panini sandwich delish and fresh. Quick, too. Nice menu options including vegetarian. They have lots of their bagged coffee choices, their Bernie specialty and brewing accessories for those seeking higher coffee perfection. Will return.

It is a bitter cold morning with the temperature at a balmy -1. I am in the Capitol city of Montpelier, Vermont…at Capitol Grounds. Warm welcome and the smells of coffee are apparent upon walking in. I was travelling with my parents. They ordered a breakfast sandwich called the Greta. It was served on a croissant with a fried egg, pesto, tomato, and a sharp cheddar. My parents gave it a solid A. My mom ordered a fancy latte. She was tickled pink that they put a heart on the latte. I enjoyed a Lox Bagel. Served on Capitol Grounds homemade original bagel with cream cheese, dill, salmon, and capers (A-)… I paired this with a Natalie’s Organic Orange Juice. This was followed with a fresh raspberry peach muffin. It had “sanding” or turbinado sugar on the top. The muffin was chocked full of raspberry and peach pieces. This was a solid A+ muffin. The atmosphere was super with lots of great people watching opportunities. Everyone was friendly and a little chatter could be heard. Just a really great breakfast spot!

Capitol Grounds Cafe, located in the heart of Montpelier’s downtown, is a charming spot for coffee lovers. I ordered a cappuccino and a double chocolate chip cookie. The cappuccino was excellent—rich and perfectly balanced—but the cookie was a bit too sweet for my taste. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, with a clean space and soft jazz playing in the background, creating a relaxed atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and would definitely return.

Very good food! I got the basic sandwich, with cheddar, eggs, and bacon. It was delicious, with a good ratio of ingredients. I wish there was a bit more bacon but otherwise the sandwich was very tasty. The atmosphere was busy but quaint, with beautiful decorations. Make sure to check it out if you’re in the area!

The Vermont State Capitol is such a wonderful visit. The tour guides are so friendly, and filled with so many tidbits and funny stories about Vermont. For a work place, they’re pretty open about it, and you can walk through most of the areas, with or without a tour group. The paintings on display are spectacular especially the one showing the Battle of Cedar Creek. A definite must stop on a tour of Montpelier .
