Ace Wasabi: Unbeatable Freshness and Friendly Service in the Marina
Ace Wasabi in the Marina is a fantastic choice for Japanese food in San Francisco. Our experience was thoroughly enjoyable, anchored by seriously fresh ingredients and a welcoming atmosphere.
The primary takeaway here is the quality of the seafood—the fish was incredibly fresh, which is the most important factor for any sushi or sashimi spot. Everything we ordered was delicious, proving that Ace Wasabi executes their dishes perfectly.
We were particularly impressed by how delightful even the seemingly simple items were. The Asparagus with sesame sauce, for example, sounds simple but was surprisingly delicious and perfectly prepared. It’s those little details that really make the difference!
Beyond the food, the service truly enhances the experience. The servers were very friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. It’s also a huge bonus that they offer a full bar with a lot of cocktail options, making it a great place to stop for a drink and a bite, not just a standard sushi dinner.
Ace Wasabi is highly recommended for anyone looking for fresh, quality Japanese food with excellent service and a fun bar scene.

The Food: Solidly in the Middle
When it comes to the sushi quality, my experience was very middle-of-the-road.

The “Okay” Factor: The fish was fresh enough, but it didn’t quite have that “wow” factor you find at high-end omakase spots. It wasn’t the best sushi I’ve ever had, but it definitely wasn’t the worst. It’s a safe, reliable option if you aren’t looking for anything too experimental or premium.

Good Variety: The happy hour selections allowed us to try a few different things, which is always a plus. It’s a great way to sample the menu and find a few rolls that hit the spot for a casual dinner.

✨ Intimate Ambiance and Quality Service
Where Ace Wasabi really stands out is in its atmosphere.

Intimate Vibe: The restaurant was quiet and dimly lit, which created a really nice and intimate setting. It’s the kind of place where you can actually have a conversation without shouting over a crowd, making it perfect for a low-key date or a catch-up with a close friend.

Professional Service: I was also quite pleased with the staff. The service was good—the servers were polite, efficient, and checked in just the right amount of times. Even during the happy hour rush, we didn’t feel neglected or rushed through our meal.

A Great Local “In-Between” Spot
The decor has a bit of a funky, retro-modern Japanese feel that adds character to the space. It doesn’t feel like a cookie-cutter sushi joint, which I appreciated. While the food is just average, the combination of the calm environment and the friendly service makes it a pleasant place to spend an evening.

Final Verdict: A Reliable Choice for a Quiet Evening
It’s a “solid okay” in terms of food, but it earns extra points for its great service and intimate atmosphere. It’s not necessarily a destination you’d cross the city for, but if you’re already in the Marina and want a quiet, dimly lit spot to enjoy some decent happy hour sushi, it’s a perfectly fine choice.

Came for HH (which they have daily from 5-6 pm) and loved it! Totally worth the money — they had a 20 piece sashimi platter for $29 and a nigiri combo with 3 types of nigiri and alcoholic beverage (we got sake) for $20. The service was great and they were super attentive, and our food came out quickly compared to most places that do happy hour or AYCE if you know what I mean. I also loved that they have indoor and outdoor seating as I was able to bring my dog to sit outside on a nice sunny day in the Marina!

I usually come here for happy hour! So good to grab some apps and a few rolls. I highly recommend Ace Wasabi! I take all my friends from out of town here for dinner. The staff is so friendly and the food quality is amazing. Can’t get enough of this place.

I am a huge fan of the vibe. The sushi was okay and decently pricey – not the biggest fan of the free bird roll but liked the 49er. Will definitely be coming back! Perfect for a date night or fun dinner with friends

Fun and loud sushi restaurant. The margaritas were so good! The nigiri I ordered were kind of small/skinny compared to what we get in our home town, but the flavor was good. I did very much appreciate their thoughtfulness towards food allergies! My kids enjoyed their rolls and had fun playing bingo.

Ace Wasabi San Francisco is a popular sushi bar in Marina district. My party and I enjoyed the service and atmosphere while seated at the bar area, and our dinner was perfectly paired with a Sapporo, the oldest brand of beer in Japan. We will likely return. ★★★★★
