Forbidden City absolutely exceeded expectations. From the moment we walked in, the experience was exceptional. The interior is stunning—beautifully designed with tasteful décor that creates an inviting and elegant atmosphere without feeling overdone.
The food was outstanding across the board. The lo mein noodles were perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. The spring green beans with garlic sauce were a highlight—crisp-tender and seasoned flawlessly. The beef with pepper sauce was rich, savory, and incredibly satisfying. And the hot and sour soup was fresh, vibrant, and balanced just right with that classic comforting depth.
Service was impressively fast and attentive without ever feeling rushed. Every dish came out fresh and hot, and it was clear that care goes into both preparation and presentation.
Forbidden City delivers on all fronts—ambience, service, and exceptional food. I’ll absolutely be back and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for high-quality Chinese cuisine.

The Shrimp Egg Foo Yung is the best. Servers are friendly with no judging. Yes we ordered a lot of food but we ate it all. Leftovers are yum!

I pass by here almost everyday on my way home and finally decided to pop in for a try. I ordered some cheese rangoons and a chicken and string bean dinner which came with a bowl of soup and a spring roll.
The cheese rangoons were good. Nice and crisp and the dipping sauce was lovely.
I ordered egg drop soup with my meal and it was… thick. VERY THICK. Almost like gravy that has sat for much too long. If this had been to go that would have been fine. Thin it out with a little broth at home but for dine in while the flavor was nice it was a sad soup.

This is where my one big con comes in. Service was fast. Way too fast. I was 2 bites into a soup, hadn’t touched my app yet and boom there’s my entree. By the time I finished my soup and app (it was fried I want to eat it while its still fresh) my meal was sad and cold.
Id eat here again but I would order in stages to avoid that happening again.

⭐️⭐️ 2/5 – Really Disappointed This Time

My first visit was great — the garlic green beans were absolutely outstanding: fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. I came back specifically because of that dish and decided to add beef this time.

Before ordering, I asked the waitress multiple times if the dish with beef would taste the same as the original garlic green beans. She assured me it would be just as delicious. However, when I later brought up how different it tasted, she said the beef version uses a different sauce. That was frustrating because I had asked very clearly beforehand.

The beef itself was overcooked, tough, and extremely salty. It did not taste freshly prepared — more like food that had been sitting and then reheated. Regardless of the sauce, there is no excuse for it being that salty or overcooked.

To make things worse, the food was brought out while I stepped away briefly, and by the time I returned, it was already cold. They reheated it, but reheated food never tastes the same — and this definitely didn’t taste freshly made.

I told the waitress about the issue. She could clearly see that I ate less than 10% of the meal (I even have a photo of the plate), yet the only solution offered was a 10% discount. That felt very disappointing considering the condition of the food and how little was eaten.

The restaurant also felt quiet and lifeless, which sadly matched the drop in food quality.

I came back excited after my first great experience, but this visit was a major letdown. Very disappointing. In pict what was left after I “ate”… and they still charged me a full price for a food I couldn’t eat! That customer service is awful! That is why they are empty!

As an American-born Chinese from Hawai’i, I I am very selective when it comes to Chinese food. This restaurant hits a spot! This is my third time here and I just love it. I tried so many different items on the menu every time I come here. The first time I had the Sesame Chicken, the second time the egg foo yeung and the third time the chili oil fish. All of them were all excellent. My Husband and I love coming here. We have the best service from the servers there tonight! Every single time we come they treat us well! Want to give a special shout out to our wonderful Servers tonight – Brianna, Kaitlyn, and Liz! All were so attentive to us, kept refilling our drinks, and fulfilled the requests we had! The service is impeccable!! Love this place!

I ordered a mongolian beef and orange chicken…. orange chicken was ok, but the mongolian beef?? More like mongolian onions and bell peppers.. I read one other review where they said 90% junk, 10% meats, I believe them now.. 90% onions and 10% meat.. never again!!
To be fair, we had eaten a little meat before I took the pictures, but that is a whola lotta onions for one plate… shame for a 35.00 meal.

This place completely exceeded my expectations.

I found Forbidden City on Google Maps without knowing anything about it, and honestly, I did not expect much at first. Parking in the front was difficult, so I parked in the back. From the outside, the restaurant looks very ordinary. But the moment I walked inside, everything changed.

The interior is beautifully designed in a traditional Chinese style. It’s spacious, elegant, and feels authentic. The atmosphere immediately made me feel comfortable.

What really surprised me was that I ended up visiting this restaurant three times in one weekend.

First on Friday evening with my wife, then Sunday afternoon with my kids and family, and again Sunday evening with friends. It’s very rare for me to return to the same restaurant so many times in such a short period, but this place made it an easy decision.

Across those visits, we tried many different dishes. Everything was consistently fresh, clean, and well prepared. Nothing felt greasy or heavy. The portions were generous, making it perfect for sharing.

The staff were excellent every time. We were seated quickly without waiting. They explained the menu, helped with recommendations, and guided us on portion sizes. Their service made the experience smooth and enjoyable.

One moment really stood out to me. After a table next to us left, a staff member immediately came to clean not only the table, but also carefully cleaned each chair. This level of cleanliness and attention to detail is not something you see often. It showed how much they care about their environment and customers.

The restaurant is very clean, spacious, and comfortable. Even the oolong tea was excellent.

The pricing is very reasonable, especially considering the quality and portion sizes. This is exactly what you hope for in a great Chinese restaurant — generous portions, fair prices, and excellent quality.

The name Forbidden City fits perfectly. From the outside, you would never expect what’s inside.

If I had to rate it honestly, I would say 4.5 out of 5 — only because I believe there is always room to grow. But in reality, it deserves a full 5 stars.

This is truly a local hidden gem, and I will definitely be coming back again.

Highly recommended.

The atmosphere is fresh and inviting. The food was amazing! I read a few reviews that stated the food was bland! That is so far from the truth.

The almond chicken was excellent. Perfect fry, phenomenal sauce and the perfect ratio of juicy chicken. Anywhere else it’s mostly batter barely any chicken. That and the garlic vegetables stole the show! would recommend 10/10 just for those 2 things! Everything else was vibrant and fresh! Service was quick and friendly! The taste of the food felt very clean and I don’t feel like falling asleep after haha! COME HERE NOW!
