Our restaurant is named after its, founder, and master of flavor, Altu Tadesse. (Pronounce her name ALL-too tuh-DESS-uh.)
Altu learned to love food and flavor when living in Ethiopia, in her childhood. Foods commonly considered unremarkable (lima beans and cabbage are among them) become delectable with her loving preparation.
Altu instinctively approaches food as a composer creates a musical piece. Her experience paired with her five senses result in enticing layers of flavor. To learn more about her food, read “What is Ethiopian Food Like?”
Altu lived in Ethiopia until after she graduated from University. Long a US citizen, she makes Greater Lansing a more friendly and flavorful place, thanks to her restaurant.
Low-key, independently owned outpost for traditional Ethiopian fare & combo meals, plus smoothies.

Yummy food and a calm environment. The veggie plate was a good portion and you could choose if you wanted rice, injera, or half and half. There was only one waiter, and she was very busy but nice.

Tried their vegetarian combo. There’s only one person to help the customers and he is very helpful in picking the combo items. The lima beans is absolutely delicious. I’ll definitely visit the restaurant whenever I visit Detroit.

Greatly appreciate finding Ethiopian cuisine out here. It is the perfect meal for these icy cold winter days – a variety of vegetable and meat stews with authentic bread. Sop it all up and feel warm and happy.

I absolutely love this place. Found it last year with my son going to MSU and living close by. We are known to frequent here. He recently introduced one of his roommates to it and my girlfriend was willing to try it. The food is amazing. Must try the tea and sambusa. The staff is excellent, friendly service, knowledgeable and it always is clean. So good I might actually go there for dinner sometime this week

Actually one of the best Ethiopian restaurants we have ever eaten. We ordered vegetarian feast for 2. It was very sumptuous. It was spicy to our liking. The ambience was very nice too. We will come again when we visit Lansing next time!

(i) The indoor decor is stunning and unique. I have not seen this type of interior design in other restaurants.
(ii) The washrooms were so clean and spacious that it made me feel like I was at home (This point is usually not noticeable or not written in a review for restaurants)
(iii) I went in a group of six, and we tried both veg and non-veg food. The food was delicious and better than some of the Indian restaurants I have visited. My only complaint is that the sambusas are a bit oily.

Food was very different but good. Stew was spicy and flavorful. Recommend trying the combo beef/chix with mild and spicy versions. Also liked the option to do half rice and half of the spongy sourdough bread to make it easier to eat and try out each one. The sauteed cabbage on the side was also good. Service was good and atmosphere was nice as well.
I have to admit I had no idea what to expect from Ethiopian food, but this was good overall – but maybe not for everyone.

Great food – lots of flavor and a good amount of spice. I had the spicy lamb stew and the sambosas with a spicy side sauce. Service was a little slow but my server was very helpful with questions about the menu, allergens, and recommendations. Nice that they have a little bar as well!
