Social Profile:

The Big Rinkowski has taken life in downtown Greenville at the USA Today #6 rated best food hall in America, Gather GVL. The Big Rinkowski’s Menu was created from growing up in New Jersey and spending countless hours on the Jersey Shore. Many of our recipes come from those early experiences. The other half of the menu comes from the experiences gained from years of travel, food exploration and visits to some of the best pubs throughout the United States and Europe. Our international influences include food from countries like England, Ireland, Scotland, Poland, and Germany. Our recipes have come from tasting the authentic versions of these items and then making them our own with a little twist here and there.

The Big Rinkowski at Gather GVL is phenomenal! The food here is on another level. The cheese curds were perfectly crispy on the outside and melty on the inside, the Philly cheesesteak was packed with flavor and tender meat, and the meatball hoagie was absolute perfection. You can tell everything is made with care and quality.

On top of the amazing food, Eric delivers unmatched customer service. He took time to make me and my daughter feel welcome, and you don’t always get that kind of hospitality these days. It made the whole experience feel special.

We will absolutely be coming back again and again. This place is a true gem!

The cheesesteak is fire! I felt a touch closer to Philly every bite. The meat to bread ratio was on point and it was adequately cheesy. Go with the Boardwalk cheesesteak. If you want to go all the way, order the cheese curds with the marinara.

This small place is inside of the food court. We found it accidentally but this is really a hidden gem. My husband got the best reuben sandwich in the world, fried cheese and I got pierogies with sour cream sauce. Food is delicious and service is exceptional.
I think this is the best place to bounce back after a long walk along the Swamp Rabbit Trail. There was live music at 5 pm too.
P.S. After posting this review, I read Heather’s review below and asked my husband if his reuben sandwich was greasy and he said “Not at all”. So problem is really fixed, Mr Owner!

When enjoying your time outside @ Gather, there is only one place that will really fill that sammy craving. The Big Rinkowski, aka Bigs, is the spot. Their Philly, og of course, is absolutely delicious. Ish hits the spot especially since there staff knows exactly what they are doing back on that grill. Oh don’t sleep on the Mexicali style Philly either she real goooooooood!!!

I am leaving this review solely because of the owner’s response to a previous customer who’s order I was a part of. I have never seen a business reply so unprofessionally and condescendingly to someone who simply expressed dissatisfaction.

Instead of taking accountability, the owner chose to argue, lecture about “grace,” question the customer’s integrity, and even bring up their religious fasting in a patronizing way. That alone is wildly inappropriate. A restaurant owner using someone’s Ramadan fasting to suggest they were “hangry” is unprofessional, tone-deaf, and disrespectful.

The response repeatedly blames the customer for how they ordered, even though the order was placed through the restaurant’s own preferred platform (Toast). If there are formatting or receipt issues, that’s something the business needs to address with their POS system, not weaponize against a customer publicly. Customers shouldn’t have to reverse-engineer your ticketing system to avoid being mocked online.

And let’s talk about professionalism: calling a customer’s order the “craziest” your wife has ever seen? Saying you wish they had shown you “grace” before “trashing” your business? That is defensive, emotional, and completely inappropriate for someone representing a company. Business owners are supposed to de-escalate, but clearly Glen never learned how to do that.

You can disagree with a review. You can clarify facts. What you cannot do is belittle, moralize, and publicly shame a paying customer while still trying to appear magnanimous by offering a gift card.

If this is how criticism is handled, it says far more about management than any 1-star review ever could.

Professionalism matters. Accountability matters. Respect matters. And this response showed none of it.

It only seems fitting that such a nasty person would make nasty food, have the day you deserve, Glen.

Came to Gthr just to try the “famous” reuben. Take my word for it, the only thing that stood out was how the bread was DRENCHED in grease. Gross, there was no way I could eat that. Took it back to ask for a redo and the attitude was completely blase. After the redo I will say it has good taste but it’s still greasy as hell. Won’t eat there again.

Ordered two cheesesteak combos, on one cheesesteak paid extra for mushrooms $2, mayo $0.50 and spicy mustard $0.50, sandwich had none…other cheesesteak paid extra for mayo $0.50 and requested no onions, it had none mayo but did have onions. The worst of all was there was absolutely no cheese on the two cheesesteaks. Very disappointed! Attached a picture for reference

Well they have a hopsitality charge, and then I get a screen asking for a tip. Really strange.

The side portion of fries comes with a sauce, but the ones with a combo is a $2upcharge. I ended up not getting the sauce as it would have been $20 for a small to medium reuben with a “small side of fries” (though the portion when I opened the box for the fries was quite large), and I felt I was being nickled and dimed.

I think the more consumer friendly option would be to lower the side of fries prices and be able to add a sauce for $2 (which is perfectly reasonable), and then display on the menu it is extra for the combo. For if I wasn’t paying attention at the screen, I wouldn’t have even known there was an upcharge and then declined it.

I get food prices are high but the sandwich just felt like it didn’t have enough meat to be a really great reuben.

Cool atmosphere in Gather, and if you don’t mind spending restaurant money at a food court, you should be good. The only that gets me is that it isn’t a traditional restaurant.
