I stopped in at House of Soul Food on Mason Avenue in Daytona Beach and had one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. The meatloaf was probably the best I’ve ever tasted—seasoned perfectly and cooked just right. The macaroni and cheese was creamy, rich, and absolutely delicious, and the candy yams were an unexpected but perfect surprise that tied everything together. I honestly didn’t realize how much of a soul food lover I was until this meal showed me what I’d been missing. If you’re in Daytona and craving real comfort food, this is the spot.
The food was delicious, authentic, comforting, and cooked to perfection. My boyfriend had the meatloaf, collard greens, and black-eyed peas, and I enjoyed the barbecue chicken, black-eyed peas, and green beans. Everything was bursting with flavor, and the portions were generous. We were also delighted by the little piece of cornbread they included it was sweet, moist, and absolutely memorable!
The combination of amazing food, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere makes this a must visit spot. We left fully satisfied and will definitely be coming back. Sam truly made our visit extra special thank you for such a wonderful experience!
First visit – showed up around 5:30pm on a Friday and was told I couldn’t order fish as the kitchen was closed for a “deep cleaning”. I ended up ordering two sides, the MAC & cheese and the collards. The collards were excellent, the Mac & cheese was ok, not impressed. Decided to give the place a second chance the following Tuesday around 6:45pm.
Second visit – ordered the Tilapia dinner with collards, Mac & cheese, rice and cornbread.
Two large pieces of fish UNDER COOKED (still had pink). Again the collards were excellent and while the Mac & cheese was better than my first visit, I’m not impressed. The cornbread was a TINY puck, cold and drier than desert sand.
Sorry, I won’t be returning for a third try and can’t really recommend.
mawls was swimming in juice/ water, you couldn’t even see them, just had to guess what it was . I had asked about fried pork chops, but it seemed like it was a issue to cook them , the yams was canned and wasn’t sweet at all, I can honestly say that the meatloaf was superb ✌ !! A soul food restaurant with no beans and CANNED COLLARD GREEN, NO CABBAGE, NO FATBACK, aka Salted pork. we only received forks , no napkins, hostess/ cashier/server seemed like she had a dam attitude.. this will DEFINITELY be a passer by place for us whenever we return to Daytona again..we only stopped because of the good reviews on the restaurant website.. They need to come to Columbia, SC to taste some REAL SOUTHERN SOUL FOOD CUISINE, FOR REAL!!!
