I stopped in at House of Soul Food on Mason Avenue in Daytona Beach and had one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. The meatloaf was probably the best I’ve ever tasted—seasoned perfectly and cooked just right. The macaroni and cheese was creamy, rich, and absolutely delicious, and the candy yams were an unexpected but perfect surprise that tied everything together. I honestly didn’t realize how much of a soul food lover I was until this meal showed me what I’d been missing. If you’re in Daytona and craving real comfort food, this is the spot.

HORRIBLE! The chicken was not cooked all the way through. The fries was not cooked. The fries was limp and greasy. The cooked to order food was rushed and not cooked properly. I had to put the chicken in the oven at home to have more cook time so my family won’t get salmonella poisoning. Customer service was okay but the workers was arguing and cussing at each other in front of customers. The Mac and cheese was good and the corn bread was soft and good. Oxtails gravy was nasty. They put minced garlic in collard greens omg this is not soul food. I would honestly rate the food a zero but that’s not an option.

My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of dining at House of Soul Food, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience! From the moment we arrived, Sam made us feel so welcome. She was incredibly sweet, patient, and took the time to answer all of our questions about the menu, which made our visit feel personal and special.

The food was delicious, authentic, comforting, and cooked to perfection. My boyfriend had the meatloaf, collard greens, and black-eyed peas, and I enjoyed the barbecue chicken, black-eyed peas, and green beans. Everything was bursting with flavor, and the portions were generous. We were also delighted by the little piece of cornbread they included it was sweet, moist, and absolutely memorable!

The combination of amazing food, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere makes this a must visit spot. We left fully satisfied and will definitely be coming back. Sam truly made our visit extra special thank you for such a wonderful experience!

This was my second attempt ordering from here. The service was decent although she seemed more concerned with her cell phone than interacting with me.
First visit – showed up around 5:30pm on a Friday and was told I couldn’t order fish as the kitchen was closed for a “deep cleaning”. I ended up ordering two sides, the MAC & cheese and the collards. The collards were excellent, the Mac & cheese was ok, not impressed. Decided to give the place a second chance the following Tuesday around 6:45pm.
Second visit – ordered the Tilapia dinner with collards, Mac & cheese, rice and cornbread.
Two large pieces of fish UNDER COOKED (still had pink). Again the collards were excellent and while the Mac & cheese was better than my first visit, I’m not impressed. The cornbread was a TINY puck, cold and drier than desert sand.
Sorry, I won’t be returning for a third try and can’t really recommend.

All I can say, I will never eat there again. The food was horrible. The macaroni and cheese had no seasoning and just nasty. The green beans were disgusting. The rice was terrible. The gravy had no thickness to it. It was very salty no flavor. The baked chicken was OK. The skin had some stuff all over the back of it. It was just overall not good. Just my opinion

My husband and I stopped by here when we got to Daytona from our cruise this afternoon.. we’ll, I should’ve taken pics of the food, because it did look beautiful and was placed in to go trays well, but we’ll have to try another soul food restaurant during our stay here this weekend.. the Mac and cheese was slightly salty, the green beans was DEFINITELY too salty, as if they just had a free pour!! The white rice and yellow rice was kinda dry looking before the host put a little gravy on it.. the turkey wings, oxtails, and hog
mawls was swimming in juice/ water, you couldn’t even see them, just had to guess what it was . I had asked about fried pork chops, but it seemed like it was a issue to cook them , the yams was canned and wasn’t sweet at all, I can honestly say that the meatloaf was superb ✌ !! A soul food restaurant with no beans and CANNED COLLARD GREEN, NO CABBAGE, NO FATBACK, aka Salted pork. we only received forks , no napkins, hostess/ cashier/server seemed like she had a dam attitude.. this will DEFINITELY be a passer by place for us whenever we return to Daytona again..we only stopped because of the good reviews on the restaurant website.. They need to come to Columbia, SC to taste some REAL SOUTHERN SOUL FOOD CUISINE, FOR REAL!!!

One of the best hidden gems in Daytona Beach !! You can literally taste all the love and flavor in every bite. Very homey vibe and the owner is the GOAT. He even let me out my own twist on the Philly CheeseSteak. Ask for the Fish Philly Cheesesteak I promise you won’t regret it and will be back for another one the next day !

I’ve went to this place four times… 1st time was absolutely amazing! I ordered the Philly cheesesteak that came with fries. (That was a few months ago)… went back again to order a Philly cheesesteak again… it was a great portion but it was salty. Like overpowering with salt… 3rd time… was three days ago… ordered another Philly cheesesteak… paid for it… for the lady to tell me, they didn’t have bread… I got my money back… then went back today… 4th time… that’s what I got (the picture). Literally barely any meat. I’m still hungry as hell! It was literally all bread. I kindly told the lady I will never be back. I will tell MY people not to come back as well. They didn’t even bother to accommodate me. No apology no nothing! Go give ur business to Wawa down the street with better prices n MORE FOOD!

I’ve given them 3 times. I’m done. The baked chicken is good the skin is never crispy so there’s that. My problem is the sides the Mac tasted old every side is under seasoned. Why are there carrots in the Lima beans? It’s like no one taste anything before putting it out. I’m tired of wasting money to be upset. I’m good on this place.
