I recently visited Headlands Brewing in Berkeley, located along Gilman Street in an area known for its cluster of craft breweries and light industrial spaces. The neighborhood has quietly become a hub for independent brewing, and Headlands Brewing fits naturally into that community-driven craft beer scene.

The taproom has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that feels authentic to the Bay Area’s brewing culture. Large brewing equipment is visible inside the space, which reinforces that you are drinking beer directly at the source. The layout is casual, with communal tables and open seating that encourage conversation among guests who are there primarily to explore different beers.

The brewery focuses on a rotating selection of craft beers that highlight balance and drinkability. Their lineup often includes approachable styles such as lagers, pale ales, and IPAs alongside seasonal or experimental releases. Rather than leaning toward overly aggressive flavor profiles, the beers tend to emphasize clean execution and thoughtful brewing techniques.

Service during the visit was friendly and knowledgeable. Staff were comfortable explaining the differences between beers and offering suggestions, which helps visitors navigate the tap list whether they are experienced craft beer drinkers or simply curious to try something new.

From a global travel perspective, Headlands Brewing reminds me of independent neighborhood breweries found in cities like Portland, Vancouver, and Copenhagen. These breweries thrive by combining quality brewing with an environment that brings people together over shared interest in craft beer.

At first glance, it’s just a small burger place, but it turned out to be a really nice spot. The atmosphere is cozy, the music is pleasantly quiet, and the beer is excellent. They even have activities for kids, which makes it great for families. Overall, I really enjoyed it. My only suggestion would be to improve the burger buns—something of higher quality and without added sugar would be perfect. Other than that, a great place. I’d definitely recommend it!

Love that they serve both tasty beers and good food. I enjoy their Gilman Curry Sandwich, Smash Burger, and the Michoacano Sandwich! It’s an outdoor space with good vibes, fire pits, and TV if you want to catch a sports game. They also have a kids’ play area, but good to watch the kids. Chill, backyard feel, I like this beer garden!

This was a fun little brewery. I especially liked being able to order at the table from your phone and then bringing your drinks and food straight to you. The beer was great. I tried the GOAT Maibock, Earth to Beer Kolsch, and Hawk Hill Hefeweizen. The maibock was my fave of the 3.

There are bench tables plus lawn chair table seating arrangements. Staff was awesome and very family and pet friendly.

Great spot for a beer! The food is also delicious, my Gallinaso sandwich with bacon and fries was very satisfying. The staff here are great, they hold down the lines and crowds like champs and are very helpful and friendly. Beautiful garden area with tons of outdoor seating and fire pits.

I’ve wanted to stop here forever. My favorite Thai restaurant across the street was closed so I popped in. The sandwich and fries were delicious. Nice staff and really pleasant family and dog friendly environment. Beautiful Sunday afternoon. Highly recommend visiting

A lively, dog-friendly spot with a great vibe, even in a less upscale neighborhood. Perfect for a casual hangout with friends.

Highlights:

Lemon Shandy – Light, refreshing, and perfect for a summer afternoon.

Black Bean Burger – Crispy with decent flavor.

Sweet The Creamery Pop-Up – High-quality homemade ice cream. I had the “Fresas con Crema,” which would have been even better with chilled strawberries instead of warm ones.

I just wish they had more vegetarian options with creative sides.

Overall, a fun and welcoming place to relax and enjoy good company!

The perfect spot to enjoy a sunny day with friends! They have something for everyone — even as someone who isn’t a big beer drinker, I loved their ciders, especially the Humboldt Cherry. Great beer for the beer lovers too! The laid-back atmosphere, friendly crowd, and dog- and kid-friendly outdoor space make it a must-visit. Highly recommend!
