I recently visited this Thai restaurant and unfortunately had a disappointing experience on my birthday. We ordered Fried Tofu, Vegetable Tempura, Tom Kha Soup with Tofu, Green Curry, and Thai Fried Rice with Chicken.
The soup flavor and fried rice was ok. The fried tofu lacked crispiness and flavor, the vegetable tempura literally no taste. Tofu is very hard in all dishes.
Overall, the food did not meet expectations in terms of taste or freshness. Hoping they improve the quality, but based on this visit, I wouldn’t return.

We’ve always loved this place. It’s our special occasion place as it’s a bit more expensive than everyday fair. Love the Tom Kha soup, creamy coconut milk with galangal. It’s a must. Pad Thai is also the best in the area. We used to go to a place in Evanston that had wonderful Pad Thai but it closed. This is a close second. Panang Curry is also quite good. Another favorite: the mu-sa-mun curry, beef floating in peanut sauce. I’ve seen recent reviews that were not favorable, but we’ve always had a good experience. It’s possible it varies by day.

Combo rice at 4 was great. Anything higher and you prob wouldn’t be able to eat it.
Crying Tiger was a good meal also, good char on the steak.
The wings for the appetizer was a miss, it was way to dry and no flavor. But other people at the table had it and there’s was much better.
Place is very quiet, only issue, we were seated near the back and the noise from the kitchen broke the peaceful vibe the restaurant offers.
Really digging the artwork and the theme.
Family friendly, yes, but know there is not much of a kids menu. So keep that in mind.

The food was delicious! We had a grilled chicken salad, Thai Salmon salad, and fresh spring rolls. Everything was fine until the bill. I paid the bill with my debt card. I prefer to leave tips in cash. My mom left the tip on the table. Whenever I sign my receipt I put a line through the tip and write in the total bill amount. I signed the receipt and handed it back to the waiter who looks at the receipt and ask about a tip. I simply told her it was on the table. I did not like being asked about a tip as if I made a mistake.

Overall, Green Basil was excellent. The waiters/waitresses are super welcoming and friendly, making it a go-to spot for Thai food. I recommend the fried rice and Panang Curry, as they were both very flavorful with perfect spice. Next time I come back, I am going to try the cool drinks they have to offer.

Not sure what happened at this restaurant recently. The food, quality and quantity has all completely changed. The fried rice was oily and we ended up ordering one more dish because the quantity was so little and my kids were still hungry. I ordered Tom Yum was was $10.95 and served in a small Corelle dish. Tasted awful and not worth $10.95 for such a small quantity.
Pad Thai has always been pretty good here but it was awful today the least.

Very good Thai restaurant. All dishes can be made gluten free. Good portion sizes. Great spicy flavor no matter the heat level you like. Worth a try if you’re in the area.
