– Corn pudding (che bap) ($5.49): 11/10, I really liked this!! Creamy and solid corn flavor. But I’ve never had this before so can’t comment on how it compares to other places. Large size!!
– Vietnamese yogurt ($2.49): 7/10, didn’t know what to expect, but very good!! Better than Greek yogurt imo
– Pandan honeycomb cake (banh bo nuong) ($6.99): 9/10, I really liked it!! Not too sweet. Texture was chewy, but it was lowkey not a consistent texture throughout. So many slices – Banh By Lauren in nyc sells one slice for like $10, so like this is like a quarter of the price for the amount
– Salted cream Vietnamese coffee ($7): 11/10, SO creamy, strong, etc. Everything I want in a viet coffee
– Egg cream Vietnamese coffee ($7): 11/10, same option ion as salted cream version, but I lowkey like this one more
We came in with our kids and placed a to-go order. While waiting for the food, my child walked around a bit near our table. Like most kids, they made some small noise—nothing destructive, nothing dangerous. Instead of politely asking us to keep them close, an older lady working there yelled at my children.
Right after that, she went to the back, grabbed cleaning spray, and aggressively sprayed and wiped the counter right where my child had just been standing, as if my kid was dirty or disgusting. That alone was shocking and humiliating.
A moment later, my daughter gently touched a small stuffed toy that was sitting out. The same lady immediately rushed over, snatched it out of her hands, and yelled at her again. This was the second time she screamed at my child.
When we paid and walked out, she went even further and said we were not welcome and told us never to come back. As if that wasn’t enough, she screamed at my child for the third time as we were leaving.
I have never experienced such rude, hostile, and disrespectful behavior—especially toward children. If this restaurant does not want families or kids, they should clearly say so. Yelling at children, spraying cleaner to make a point, and telling paying customers they are not welcome is completely unacceptable.
Absolutely Fantastic Experience at Salt City Che!
I had the pleasure of visiting Salt City Che recently, and I have to say — it completely exceeded my expectations. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and well thought-out, with a perfect balance of casual comfort and creative flair.
The food? Absolutely incredible. Every dish was packed with flavor, clearly made with fresh ingredients and real care. You can tell there’s a passion behind everything they serve. Whether you’re a foodie or just looking for something satisfying and delicious, this place delivers.
The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely made the experience even better. It’s rare to find a spot where you feel this well taken care of without any pretension.
Overall, Salt City Che is a hidden gem (or maybe not-so-hidden anymore!). Highly recommend it for anyone looking to try something new and memorable. I’ll definitely be coming back!
I ordered the 3-color dessert with coconut milk, and it tasted very strange—definitely not fresh. Shortly after eating it, I had to run to the bathroom several times, which made me suspect the coconut milk was spoiled.
Later, I learned that this shop may be selling desserts that were not sold the day before, instead of properly disposing of them at the end of the day as they should. I also noticed other customers mentioning concerns about expired food, especially with to-go items. Please be extremely cautious when buying anything packaged or taken home.
What’s also suspicious is that on Christmas Day, there was suddenly a large number of positive reviews posted within a single day, many of which appear to be from friends or people connected to the business. It feels like these reviews were posted to bury genuine negative feedback from real customers.
There are many great Vietnamese dessert places out there that prioritize freshness and food safety. Unfortunately, this one did not meet basic standards.
