Located in a new building in the heart of Oakland, the environment is simple and nicely designed. Tall space, nice lighting and art. Staff was great and the food was excellent. The Steak Frites were perfect! I also had the Escargot, French Onion Soup and a Chocolate Mousse Cake – all delicious.

Delicious food and a cool space. Definitely different from a lot of restaurants in Oakland. Nice without being pretentious. Loved the pasta and the boudin Blanc was so tasty.

Sit at the bar if you’re a party of 2 for more space and a fun experience. Brandon was awesome!

The service was great and we loved the brunch menu. There was something for everyone although most of us got some form of the Eggs Benedict. The decor was also a big hit.

Read about this place in the chronicle and have gone to Olivetos for years so decided to give it a try tonight because we’re always excited to find French faire in Oakland.

Reservation was easy to come by since the restaurant is so big. The 30 ft ceiling lends to extremely noisy interior. Luckily, there weren’t that many tables because it was already loud. We also didn’t feel that the decor matched the menu. I know it is suppose to be modern cuisine but the menu items were pretty classic French.

We didn’t know what to expect, except that it was southern French cuisine. My partner who is French was excited to find menu items that brought back his childhood in the cantine, like the Brandade. There were offerings like pissaladière that brought me back to my years in Nice.
We ordered the Brandade, the poulet grillé and the pétrole sole. The brandade was good, although the mashed potatoes could have been finer. The grilled chicken breast was a huge disappointment. The breast of chicken was pounded to a thin steak and covered with frisée lettuce and cherry tomatoes. The chicken was very over-cooked. My sole was pretty good but also over-cooked.
All and all, it felt forced. The entrees were $30-40 a plate so we expected better at this price.
Sadly, we won’t be returning.

Went here for Valentine’s Day with my honey. Things didn’t go as planned. Our table and the ambiance were delightful…(hence the stars). That is until our server entered our night. She basically looked like someone who was forced to work on this night and had an attitude to go with it. Right off the bat we ordered 4 dishes and while not too complicated our server attempted to memorize the order because she said writing it down takes too long…. BAD IDEA! We ordered duck pate and instead we got pork rilettes….yuck! When we mentioned the order was incorrect our server said “Oh sorry” and walked away. No replacement, just a simple shrug and a sorry.
I also felt the restaurant lacked professionalism as almost everyone was wearing their street clothes and there was no uniform or anything to identify a staff member that works there. I have lived in Oakland for 12 years and the experience was unlike any other restaurant I’ve been to in the Bay area.
Based on their prices and attitude I felt this was unacceptable and will not be returning.

Brunch here was delicious. If you’re a fan of French food or brunch then this is a must visit. The portion sizes are also much bigger than expected which is a plus. No real downsides. Also the quince cake was delicious

Pros
* Beautiful gorgeous space.
* We loved walking in on Sunday afternoon and getting seated immediately. The hostess was nice and friendly.
* We loved all the different cocktails and mocktails we got. They were all done beautifully and with some interesting twists.

Cons
* There were 2 things that were disappointing though. We saw Pommes Lyonnaise on the menu and were excited about that, because you don’t see that everyday. We were expecting thinly sliced pan-fried potatos with onions and parsley. But what we got looked more like regular roasted potatoes cut in cubes. I wish they had just named them ‘Roasted potatoes’ on the menu.
* The second thing was that we ordered the eggs Benedict, which ended up coming with the same exact potatoes. We wished that when we ordered them together, the server had given us a heads up that they were the same potatoes, since it wasn’t written on the menu. (And then we wouldn’t have ordered them.)

We would still come back though, because everyone was very nice and the space and cocktails were so nice. Hopefully they’ll read through some of the reviews and iron out the kinks!

Great ambiance and friendly service. Food wise we had a good experience – Appetizers were excellent, the burger a bit salty, the petrale sole was very good, and the steak frites was very good. Dessert was good

Great food and excellent service. We enjoyed a dinner here and cry thing was great. The drinks were delicious and different than I had had elsewhere and we liked the cheese plate and the asparagus appetizer. I had the lamb which was a big portion and a lot to eat. We also liked the appetizers. The ambiance was welcoming and stylish. I would definitely go back.

My friend had eggs Benedict that he claims were the “best he’d ever had.” Which is saying something in that he most often orders them whenever we go out for brunch. I tried the Galette, which tasted fine, but was a bit too dry for me. I’ll not be having that again, but I will order the Benedict. And the Bloody Mary’s were super. The restaurant is relatively new and its decor is comfortable and pleasant. Recommend for bunch, might even try a dinner one time, the menu looked really good.
