⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Authentic Mexican Flavor Worth Every Bite!

I’ve known the family behind Birrieria Chalio for a long time, and even with that connection I can honestly say this place deserves a spotlight for its delicious Mexican cuisine. This neighborhood gem serves up traditional favorites — from rich, savory birria and hearty tacos to classic burritos and other Mexican dishes that are full of bold, comforting flavors.

What really sets this spot apart is the authentic, home-style cooking that reflects true Mexican roots. Every visit feels like sitting down to a carefully prepared meal with family — just with the added bonus of not having to cook it yourself. Whether you’re craving something slow-simmered and soul-warming or a perfectly seasoned taco, you’ll find something to love here.

The service is friendly and welcoming — familiar faces or not, you’ll feel right at home. I personally recommend stopping by for lunch or dinner (before 5pm during the week, 7pm Friday-Sunday) and trying a variety of items; the depth and balance of flavors have kept me coming back again and again. I definitely recommend this place to anyone in Whittier looking for great Mexican food.

We usually come here for breakfast and everything is pretty much excellent. Service is good and the atmosphere is always pretty quiet and calm. However today, service was very slow and a little incompetent. It took about 5-7 min to get our water and coffee. She brought us silverware , but it was only a spoon . It wasn’t a napkin and fork…. It was a spoon lol. I don’t know man .
She brought our meals however we didn’t have a fork. We asked her for a fork and she was nice and went to go get it….5 min later we get our forks. Food was not as warm as when it was first brought over to us.
She never came to see if everything was ok. She never asked if I wanted a coffee refill. I never finished that cup of coffee cuz it got cold ❄️❄️.
If that wasn’t bad they sat us at a table that hadn’t been completely cleared away. There was trash from the previous customers behind us in the corner.
Despite all this……. Food is delicious . Always is .

Pretty pricey food and it’s not as good as people make it seem. I dont mind paying $ for food as long its worth it
Menudo is not as good as they say. I had better from smaller restaurants. You want seafood don’t get it here

Big disappointment!! I truly don’t understand why this place has 4 stars. The food was just ok, but the place is filthy and in great need of maintenance. The service is terrible!!! First of all the WAITRESS WAS SUPER RUDE! And She took a very long time to serve us. The food trickled to our table. The gordita came first and the menudo close to ten minutes later. Tortillas 5 minutes after the food. How can anyone enjoy their food like that? Then we had to wait some more because the menudo order was wrong and she had to take it back and bring another. Throughout our stay we had we hear the ladies argue and raise their voices about work they had to do. It was a terrible stay!

The fish tacos are the bomb, reminds me when I was a kid hanging around Ensenada Mexico. Eating here brought back good memories.

The once great Birria at chalio
Is no longer. The birria had no taste the consome was mostly tomato paste thick and bland. I used to love to come eat here. I just don’t know what changed? Owners, cook, supplier’s? I don’t know. The chips and salsa were the best part of this meal sadly. I won’t come here anytime soon.

Food was good. They have homemade corn tortillas. They are big and tasty. The micheladas here were absolutely delicious! My mom and sister really enjoyed them. The service was good too. I recommend this place.

I actually enjoyed having my food outside sry to say but inside does have a funky 80s smell. The food is good tho little more expensive than what ever is around but the giant hand made tortillas makes up for that.
