Emmy Squared Pizza — 4.5 Stars of “Why Is This Place Empty When the Pizza Is This Good?”

Emmy Squared is the Detroit‑style pizza champion nobody talks about… probably because there’s never anyone inside to talk about it.
You walk in expecting a crowd, and instead it’s just you, the staff, and a pizza that’s about to change your whole mood. Empty dining room, full heart. ❤️

The pizza? Ridiculous.
Crispy edges that crunch like they’ve been training for the Olympics.
Cheese that melts like it’s trying to flirt with you.
Sauce that hits you with that “oh okay, I see what we’re doing today” energy.

We’ve been here multiple times — because it never disappoints. Not once. Not even a little. Every visit is like, “Yep… still fire.”

And yet… the place stays empty.
Like Emmy Squared is the best-kept secret in the city and everyone else is out here eating sadness‑flavored pizza somewhere else.

Service is chill, food comes out fast (because, again… it’s just us in here), and the whole vibe is “underrated gem that deserves more love but also kinda nice having it all to ourselves.” ✨

Final Verdict:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (or at least a very strong 4.5)
Amazing pizza, zero crowds, maximum satisfaction.
Emmy Squared is the introvert of pizza restaurants — quiet, unbothered, and secretly elite.

BTW – could wait to take picks of my pizza it was gone before I pulled the camera out!

Get the pineapple glazed chicken. Very flavorful and the chicken was still crispy. Also really enjoyed the pizza and mozzarella sticks. The chopped cheese was good but not my favorite. Will definitely come back for the pizza.

I’m still giving 4 stars because I’m not going to let the service we received tonight take away from the great experiences we’ve had here before. This is one of our favorite pizza spots in Charlotte.

Tonight, I had family in town and we decided to sit at the bar. We arrived around 7:50 PM. Karen was the bartender. Two gentlemen had just gotten up from the seats we were about to take, and she asked us to give her a few minutes to reset the place settings, which was completely fine.

She eventually came back and took our drink order. While we waited, she continued serving other guests who came in after us and sat at the bar and nearby tables. About 20 minutes went by and we still hadn’t received our drinks. She then delivered drinks to guests who ordered after we did. A few more minutes passed and she went to take an order from a newly seated table.

At that point, it had been about 30–35 minutes and we still had nothing, so we decided to leave. What bothered me most was not only the wait, especially considering it wasn’t that busy and she was able to provide everyone else with what they needed but the complete lack of acknowledgment. She never checked in, never said she was working on it, never apologized for the delay. 35 minutes for two drinks is absolutely ridiculous.

Before walking out, I approached her and asked if our drinks had been put in. She seemed caught off guard and said yes, that she was getting to it, and picked up the ticket. I mentioned that she had already delivered drinks to people who ordered after us. Her response was simply, “okay.” I asked her to cancel our drinks, and she picked up the ticket, crumpled it up, and threw it away. No explanation. No apology.

Mistakes happen. Being busy happens. But the dismissive attitude and lack of care were unacceptable. That’s what made this experience so disappointing. I truly hope this was just an off night and not reflective of the standard here moving forward.

Great experience our first time going here. My Mom was excited they had gluten free options – which actually tasted great. We tried the cheesey garlic bread, the meatsah pizza and the shaved brussel sprout salad. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. We were in town to see a favorite band at Snug Harbor and this is very close and conveniently walkable. We all agreed we would go there again.

Went during the great snow storm of ‘26. Glad they were open and got to try their awesome deep dish pixxa. They varied from cheese and pepperoni, to vodka pesto and nashville hot chicken with pickles. Great experience, great service, great pizza, but to be honest the star of the show was the burger That is a must try and a pleasant surprise from a pizza place.

Regarding food- food was great. Fresh and appealing. However our server was dry, barely smiled, yet was professional so overall service was “blah”. We will not return to this location but may try out South sides location .

In this area with so many choices- this is a winner!!! I’m from Detroit and they have great Detroit (thick/crust) pizza at a reasonable price served by wonderful people in a really great space. It’s worth looking for and it’s also way bigger inside so nice place to hang and watch people. Lots of parking in back or around either corner- check it out!

My best friend and I came in for dinner, and this was my first time visiting. The host was very nice and seated us in a reasonable amount of time. Our server was pleasant overall, though it seemed she was a bit overwhelmed with the number of tables she was handling.

We were not aware that it was Restaurant Week. I ordered from the restaurant week menu. My salad arrived in a timely manner, but my entrée took about 40 minutes to come out. When I asked the server about the delay, she wasn’t sure what happened. The manager came over, and his response was that he wasn’t in the back with the sous chef, so he didn’t know what occurred. I didn’t feel that was an adequate explanation. Once it was clear my entrée was significantly delayed, I believe more effort should have been made to expedite it.

The manager did comp my meal, which I appreciated, but overall the experience was disappointing. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be returning.

A friend and I came here on a Tuesday night to grab a pizza and some beers. I had no expectations going in, and I was very impressed by the end of the night! We sat at the bar, and the bartender, JoDee, was fantastic. She recommended one of the beers on tap, and it is now one of my favorite (unfortunately seasonal) beers. For food, we ordered the MVP pizza and caesar salad with chicken. The pizza was unique and crispy. The salad was refreshing and had the perfect level of dressing. This is one of those places that could be a really nice date night or a nice spot to catch up friends. I will definitely be returning in the future.

I used to love this place. Unfortunately the quality of food and service has really declined.

For our last order we used the take out option. When we arrived we waited 20 minutes past the estimated readiness time and the host gave no updates during the long wait.

When we got home we noticed the gluten free pizza wasn’t cooked through (just dough) and it was missing toppings.

Very disappointed.
